another 'what wax' thread

On another point I don't see where all the mud landed at Gordon's door. He was simply stating his experience and asking the questions. He never stated anything as fact I think he was simply calling out Definitive as a re-brander proven slightly by the old pot Gordon had.

I won't mention who mentioned this from DW but if someone comes on the scene so quick with so many products you simply know how it works. Again I feel sorry for the newer people to the industry/market/hobby.

Dave speaks sense. And so does Spoony. It's as simple as an iPhone photo, proving them labs exist. But instead Definitive Wax have flown the DW nest and in effect proved the accuser to be correct.

both threads are still available if you have the link to them, but you can't seem to find them if you're on DW.

I agree it's wrong claiming it's all home made, when it may be relabelled. But I would imagine most have bought a base product and fractionally tweeked and re advertised. I would hope that most would soon realise this, but if you like the product and are happy to pay the price for it then job done, they're not forcing us to buy said product. Lets face it, they're all FK1000 or colli 476!

Blackfire midnight sun? can get a 3oz pot for £30. I get the impression it's quite a hard wax though, anyone know anything about it?

Clark@PB raved about this for sometime, prior to AF products... I think all Blackfire products are held in high regard, so might be worth a try.

Have you tried, or has it been covered, Zymol Carbon?

Dave have you ever thought about britemax vantage? I know its not "boutique" and it never seems to get a mention but it seems like just what your after.
Soft and oily and spreads really well and removing it is effortless.
It's the easiest wax I've ever used and over blackmax it looks really good.
I've also got AF passion and bouncers 22 and its easier to use than both of them I think.

Its one of those waxes where if you put it in a fancy pot people would rave about it!

For £25 on shinearama in the sales its a bargain.

I had a pot of MS ages ago. Lovely wax, not the most durable hence the sealant underneath. Looks best on dark colours, Dark Blues, Blacks and Reds. Like Best of show in many traits.

Vantge is nice. I'll fire you my sample Dave. It doesn't feel that boutique. The only thing that lets it down. Works great though.

thanks Kev, that'd be good to try. will send you the AF prototype tomorrow

i remember something about MS having to be put over one of their other products, thought was to get a good bond no just for durability.

what do you know about anglewax? guardian looks and sounds familiar

That's another company involved in the whole rebranding. I forget if they are a maker or re-seller so to speak.

It won't feel boutique enough I don't think.

Pm'd.

Why not wait a little longer and see what new waxes AF bring out this year?

i had a sample of one of them, the whole application and feel is exactly what im looking for, it is what sparked off this thread. but the sample i had is a show wax and durability just isnt enough for how much rubbish our cars get put through. if they lasted another month choice would be easy

I'm yet to try an AF wax. They just don't tempt me for some reason :/

I think it's because they released so many. Dilutes the brand.

Desire seems like a nice wax but the rest just seem the norm without bringing anything new to the table. Hopefully they can slim things down.

I think it's because they feel like they're made without love, they're just to fill a gap in the business catalogue, however good they might be.

Illusion? I also got a sample but I haven't used it yet.
Well you never know, maybe they will bring out a wax like your sample and it will have better durability. I'm sure if illusion is a hit then af will make more waxes with a similar texture. How about use desire as your "everyday" wax and buy illusion for using every now and then for that special feeling?

I felt like that for ages but one day I saw passion reduced by quite a bit and I just went for it. I'm glad I bought it as I'm really pleased with it and enjoy using it.

Another suggestion is R222's (not the 100% version). I know it's not exactly boutique or expensive, however the application and feel of the wax performs well above its price range and is very glossy. Not too sure on durability though as i only got it for christmas and have only had a play with it, i am lead to believe that durability isn't too good though.

Autobrite's distinction is like butter and lasts a good 3 months easily? Its their flagship wax which i got to have a go with pot number one when i was on their training day.

Talked to the owner of angel wax at Waxstock, he insisted that he makes products that get rebranded.

bilberry / angelwax wheel cleaner being one of them.

Yeah that's them. I knew Bilberry cane from them.

As I keep saying, there's no other industry like it. It has no governing body, no one to answer to.

Ive been saying for years that its as bad as the sports supplement industry. Absolutely f**king stupid. Plus now, a bit like the supp industry, every c**t is jumping on the band wagon and trying to make a few bucks with marketing BS. I know what works and what doesnt now, but as you say I feel sorry for the people just starting out.

Don't get me wrong Ive fallen for many things so Im a f**king mug too but the s**t people produce and sell is unreal. Atleast the supp industry is getting media attention and its better than it was. BCAA's, fat loss, fat blockers. f**king brilliant. Protein is about the only thing I take now as ive seen the results with and without it for a while now.

DW is a f**king joke now as well.

On the topic of durability it's just dawned on me how long my current mix is holding.

Amigo/tough coat/glasur/vics the day before CSS, and one layer of Jett carnauba 6 weeks ago. Still beading nicely tbh. Not super tight, but good enough!

5.5 months with one weakfish top up. Who says glazes affect durability?

Lols! Love it! Like an armoury mate!

It looks great, but does not last. In fact, I ended up using Natty's Blue over it on the Clio years ago because it looked the same, Natty's was easier to apply and lasted longer...

PS. Zymol Carbon ftw.

ECHO, ECHo, ECho, Echo, echo.

carbon is a very nice wax at that price, very close to glasur. glasur worth the extra price over carbon, probably not

but neither gave me that special oily feel

Thats a fair comment and we are working on some slight tweaks to the current wax line to give them more "purpose" and "difference" (bar the durability steps) in actual fact the waxes are quite different in our line up but I don't feel we are doing our best to get that across in the description on the website etc. Things will change this year or sure.

Thanks for the reply James. Your new one is actually quite exciting and apart from maybe Desire none really got the blood pumping.
