any 172 owners insured with Brentacre? - what was your agreed BHP cap?

  Fiesta ST3
just been on the phone to brentacre regarding new quote, they say i can do anything what so ever to the car as long as i tell them about the mods and it also must not exceed 180bhp

does that sound a about right? i doubt il EVER reach this figure without spending silly money lol but just interested in what they have capped you at?

also pay no extra for admin fees or anything, pretty impressive stuff

Maybe not, when i got mine they said it would be 180bhp limit but i said i might need a bit more just in case and i said the region of 190-200 so they gave me 190 bhp limit free of charge.

Just out of interest, how on earth will they ever know the BHP figure of the car if you need to make a claim, tow it to a RR? lol :S

Was about to say something similar tbh. It's a limit of course of which if you turbo'd / supercharged it and didn't tell them they would easily notice but if you happen to trickle over it with just simple mods I wouldn't be on the phone straight away to throw more money away.

It's a great think to offer but in reality most specialist offer the same/similar thing, Brentacre have just labelled it well. Most specialists will not change more for changes which do not effect BHP levels, eg costemtic mods, brake upgades etc

Exactly, I bet 50% of people who have re-mapped there turbo'd cars dont bother to disclose, as if the car is fcuked how will the ins company ever know....

im insured with brentacre with a 182 and my limit is 190 bhp. my car was rolling roaded at 187.3bhp before a remap but they wouldnt ever be able to find out! ;)

I believe it was discussed recently on here, lets just say, if an insurer suspects foul play in the event of a claim they will do some very careful investigations, is this involves tapping into the ecu to read max boost levels, it is easier enough to do.

Keywords here boys. ;)

Not that I condone any of this business.

Ah fair enough I suppose, ile defo remember that in future! Thanks mate.:D

makes sense cos i remember using a RS Tuner, when you load it up to connect, it shows you when the ecu has been flashed previously, date and what flash map has gone on it.

so if they suspect foul play they could probably void the warranty

Corrected. ;)

It's a theoretical 180bhp. So, if you have an exhaust per them it adds x bhp and a remap adds about 10bhp too. So, as you can see, it covers some very basic mods but not quite as good as it first appears. As if you list the mods seperatley, an exhaust and RS tuner is enough to see you above 180bhp.

I'm with them, found their service excellent and the policy spot on. There's no way you'll reach 180bhp with basic mods (exhaust, remap etc.) in a Clio so you can mention that and they will take note.
