Any ideas on clio cutting out?

  renault clio dynamque 1.2
Hi, I'm new to this site but it was recommended on another forum that I came across whilst trying to find out why my clio dynamique 1.2 16v 91 plates keeps cutting out.
I'm the second owner of the car and have had it since 2002 and have its FSH -no problems til a month ago when it started running badly at junctions/traffic lights, warning lights would come on then if I don't get the revs up fast enough it cuts out.I've had it looked at by a mechanic and it came up as a MAF sensor problem so that was replaced but the problem is still there. The mechanic says its definitely to do with the speedo telling the ECU the wrong info (saying I'm doing 70/80mph when infact I'm coming to a standstill and he thinks its linked to the ABS system butn isn't quite sure how to proceed. Any ideas gatefully received :)

My 182 used to cut out a lot and at 1 point i was doing 17mpg on a run.Cut out at every junction.
Turned out to be the temp sensor telling the car it was cold and flooding it constantly...
Might be something to do with that...

ive had this problem with my mk 2 clio, bloody nightmare, renault walker had it in about 8 times, always when the revs were low, ie at lights, junctions etc.. the eml light would come on then it would just die on me and go into limp home mode.

first 2 times they said the wiring loom was burnt out so that was replaced
then it was a dodgy carb
then it was the air filter
so on so on so on,

personally i dont think they had a clue and were just replacing random shite and hoping for the best!!!!

hope you get it sorted tho, i know how frustrating it is, especially when it goes and you have a car up your arse moaning cus they cant get past!!!!

french peice of s**t!!!!

I'd love to know where the carb is on a Mk2 Clio last time I checked they were all injectoion not a carb in site dealerrs throwing you a lie there.

In response to the original poster what age is the ca there no 1.2 16v dynamic on a 91 plate it was RT etc at that age dynamic is Mk2 only.

I'd recon the throttle body is dirty and just needs cleaning up. Not difficult realy.

there has been lot's of problems with these 1.2 16v's cutting out at traffic lights,
it's to do with silicone in the computer connections at the back of the engine,
there is a black metal cover on the top of one, sometimes you can pull it off but some are actually locked in place, once you unplug the connections you will see lot's of silicone in the connector and the terminals,

we just jet an air line blower and blow out all the silicone and this usually sorts it, take about 30 minutes.
hope this helps guys...

people still say carbs but their throttle bodies and their located under the inlet manifold on the 1.2 16v clios just unbolt about 8 or 10 10mm bolts and it's right underneith, they do get clogged up with dirt from time to time.

I find this happens to mine on some cold mornings need to start it twice.. is this normal?

i find this can happen to my car if i tap the accelerator immediately after starting the car, ive found it better to start the engine, put my seatbelt on (or wait 5-10 seconds) then pull off and its fine
