Clio Mk3 1149cc power loss.

Hello folks, I'm a new member. Can anyone assist? My partner owns a Clio Mk3, March 2010, 1149cc. She has owned it for about 3-4 years now. We've always had itMOTed and serviced at a local Renault specialist who was a main dealer trained technician. In recent weeks she has noticed that very occasionally whilst accelerating there is a momentary loss of power, the car simply seems to falter then go. This morning it lasted longer than normal and the engine warning light came on. I followed her home from work this evening, there were no problems. We are assuming that this is the precursor to something failing. Does anyone have any ideas what this might be? Thanking you in advance.

I am no expert...

... but has it been serviced recently?
Can you get it plugged into a diagnostics machine to see what codes are logged?
Has it been very wet locally recently? (Could something like a sensor have gotten damp?)

Being a 1.2, o2 sensor or coilpack would be my guess. But like 16valver says get it hooked up to diagonostics, if the eml is on it's most likely logged a code or two.
