Hi guys recently changed my forum name. Anyways i was wondering about insurance.

Would anyone insure a 21yr old on a grp 15 insurance deisel car worth over 10K. Considering the driving has 2-3 yrs ncb and pass pluss yet 3 points and a crash in the last three years?

Just wondering as im gonna need to get some ncb bonus up but if i wont be able to get insured by the time im 21 ill find an alternative route to this.

I reckon you should be ok.

I insured a group 14 turbo deisel car at 19 as my first car fully comp for a grand but that was 1998!

You should be fine Youll just pay a fair bit Id expect £800~£1.2k depends on so many other factors though.

It will be about the same price as a 172 realy to insure.

Its one of them ibiza cupra diesel thingys that i like. Been reading about them on the cupra forums and a few owners have chipped them to 200+bhp and 331lb/ft torque without any other mods and its possible to get 230bhp but will be very unreliable. 800-1200 sounds ace to me i dont mind paying upto 1.5k i suppose yet on the other hand id rather wipe my ass with it then burn it than give it to an insurance copmpany!

I had a cup but after er.... killing it i dont want another petrol as they just love been revd and therfor ill end up driving too fast again. I know the cupra is a quickish car but id drive it much slower. especially after having an accident and realising it aint worth it.

Also im guessing eddes tha man to ask so if you stick an airfilter on a diesel will it sound the same as if it was on a petrol as logical thinking surgests it does? any other good mods for diesels i know you can stick a dump vlave on but not sure if id bother.

No idea why i choose the name. Suppose its cus id like a westfield. Changed the name for certain reasons but might change it back soon if it aint too much trouble. Suppose its like my private plate having it on means lots of people recongise my car but they only remeber for all thw bad driving ive done.

not sure tbh mate, as i said my mates olf fezzy diesal has a filter but sounded std, never really heard any diesals with filters.

as said get a valver;)

but its only grp 15 insurance for 160bhp and 245lb/ft of torque and 300 quid pluss rrd equals 200bhp and 330lb/ft and around 40-50mpg. Dunno wots go me into it. Must be the torque.

Oh and yes people i understand a 200bhp diesel will not be as rapid as a 200 bhp petrol as the powerband will be shorter. Dont want any arguements!

Dump valve on a diesels wont work as diesels as they do on petrols as they dont have throttle plates which petrols do to need dump valves. So there is no hp or responsivness gains. Diesels can sound like they have dump valves particularly the 150 VAG engine but its the EGR valve suffing exhaust air back into the engine to keep emmisions down.

As for an aifilter on one well it shoul sound different but diesels dont work at the same RPM or operate at all like a petrol so the sound will be different.

Id be careful of pushing more than 280lb torque though the box and wouldd get them o remap to keep it below 300lb as the box isnt designed to take it.

The gearbox is officially rated as 300lb max. The clutch will also slip at around this figure but it depends. The box has proved to take well over this figure some cars are pushing 400lb+ throught it but Id keep the gearbox manurfactures figures (getrag) when remapping to heart they know the box better than anyone. If you want to push it its up to you the box in the cooper S is a getrag one and offically rated as 154lb torque but some of the tunners can push over 250 without problems.

I take it the 200hp + chiped ones are the 2.0 16V? the 1.9 130 wont get 200hp with just a chip.

Have you looked at the other VAG range the Skoda VRS has the 130 engine chippable to 180 or so hp and you can get more (just costs more) but its only group 7 insurance an 11~12k to buy new I think.

Cheers edde mate. Very good information. I read on the seat forums like you say it wont run aswell with 300lb/ft but the gearbox was tested upto something roung 350lb/ft but id prob try and stay near 300. I didnt actually expect to gain anything from a dump valve but you make it quite clear it wont work very well if at all. Also i dont think id fancy been experimental with the induction kit either if i had a doubt about the sound it would make. the car as standard seems impressive and i wouldnt be pushing it as often or as hard as i pushed my cup.

Being being petrol/diesel sniffer i probably would risk it with the 200 bhp and 300lb/ft and see how i got on. Thanks anyway!
