Any recommendations to set up timing on 182 in surrey....after cambelt change....

Hi all,

Yep here goes what looks like another bodged cambelt! Was recommended a garage on here and im not happy with the work. Ive had the cambelt changed to pick it up a over the weekend, the clio was making an awful rattle and running VERY lumpy on idle. Took it straight back after driving about 10metres!

Chap has phoned me today to say its sorted, I am going tomorrow to pick it up. He has told me you cannot adjust the timing on these engines unless its linked to a laptop.... This hasnt left me with any confidence whatsoever and have a feeling its still going to be running poorly.

Is there anyone who can check timing and adjust? If so what costs am i looking at?

Am I right in thinking you can adjust the timing on the left hand side of the block?

All help much appreciated!

This means he is a f**king idiot as he's talking about the ignition timing or something along those lines rather than what he should be concerned about.

You can just alter the timing but thats assuming he's made a decent job of the actual belt change. Although it won't be a 5 minute job its far less work than doing the belt change in the first place.

Although doubts like has he used a new crank pulley bolt, new cam pulley bolts etc would be eating away at me now.

Oh ffs! Really annoyed, going to visit him in a bit and see what the situation is. How do you adjust the timing on these engines?

you dont reallt "adjust" the timing. You set it correctly with locking tools and a tensioning procedure

We could collect your car with a trailer and rectify the situation if you wish

Thankyou, but I think micheal woodford is a bit closer unless your in surrey? I have started to think the bosch plugs may be the issue too. I hear these engines are very sensitive to plugs. Maybe this would cause the poor idling. Going to see if the plugs make any difference first hand. What are your views?
