Any young 172/182 drivers that regret it....

Hey, was just wondering if there is any 18/19 yr olds that have got a 172 or 182, and regretted paying shed loads for their insurance? Do you wish u waited a few more years, or are you glad that got one? I would love to get one, but as im only just about to turn 18, insurance will cripple me. Just wondering if its worth it? Sorry if it has already been asked, but i couldn't find it on here. Jay

Tbh to get less than 2K you need to be 19 thats the benchmark i'm aiming for. untill thenits driving my standard 1.2 16v to save up and hopefully gain an ncb.

Hoping to get insured on a 172 for circa £1800 at 19 with 1 ncb with enough haggling.

I'm 19, 2NCB with my 182, on a modified policy I pay £1800 everything covered with a £600 excess.

To be honest, after realising how much I have spent I would prefer to have my mint 1.2 dynamique back and £5k in the bank, but thats not to say I regret buying the car, wanted one for as long as i can remember and it was everything i was expecting and more on top!

iv just made the move at 18 from my 1.2 clio up to my 172 and tbh performance wise its well worth it as its obviously got more guts etc but i do miss my old car and how i could have spent even more money on it . wee bit skint now lol

remember that road tax is going up on them too, I wouldn't dream of paying more than £1k to insure a 1*2, you can buy a minter for 4-5k these days!

My 182 was costing me £480 to insure when I sold it.

Road tax is only £260 as of next April, then £270 the following year. Not a massive increase.

I can't believe how much people will pay just to have a quick motor. At 18, I was rolling round in a 1.3 Belmont, paying £60 a month and spending the rest on beer and clothes! Even my modified 205 GTi that I got at 19 only cost £1300 a year.

By the time I reached 21, I stopped worrying about what insurance would cost me...

I'm 27 and my 182 insurance has just been done - 387 pounds for the year with a 250 excess....not that I'm smug or anything. Shame I'm selling it really!

depends what your budget is alot of young uns buy a new corsa 1.4 sxi etc for 9k but you could get a 172 for 4.5 and add insurance, it would still be cheaper

Im 20, its fun for a bit but then it becomes the averages again and now i want something faster, but TBH i still think i could drive the 1.4 faster :D

I find i can only drive my car properly once a week at most, living in coventry there isnt really a great need for the 2.0L, but when i get home and on to the dales and country roads its a different story.

im 24 with a 172 and 2years ncb and still paying £1100!!! they just aint cheap cars to run either with petrol as much as it is. but if you think its to much money to fork out on the car then the car aint right for you. if you love it that much it dont matter what you pay

i wouldent bother mate i had a freind who sold his vtr for a 172. its up for sale now and hes going back to a vtr or a dci due to the insurance and running costs killing him at 18 1ncb.

Stick with your 1.2 make it really nice and have a good standard of life intill your abit older. All these people with vxr's and flashy cars young usally have alot of debts.

i am 21 and i got my insurance just over 1k with direct line.

i waited and saved up for my car and paid in cash (- p/ex) and i am so glad i run my car fully paid for and no debts or monthly payments!!

definitely worth waiting in my opinion til the finances look nicer, paying 2k etc for insurance is just beyond me! but hey each to their own

intersting read, quite a range of prices and excesses. im looking into a ph-quick for just after christmas (ill be 19 then)... 2yrs ncb (fingers crossed).

Was 19 when I had mine payed £1650FC with 2 years ncb, don't regret a thing. Then being glutton for punishment I decided a 225 was a good idea 10 months later and payed the same :(. Well well worth it though on both counts, but only because I can afford it I wouldn't go skinting yourself for it.

am 21, just payed £1100 fully comp with 3 ncb
Last year a payed £1700 but in one payment, the above is monthly payments so would of been cheaper if a had the money to pay in one go
