Anybody know what this is called?

Hi all
Anybody know what this thing is called? Can it be removed and bin the hole thing including pipes or whatever, is it a component that helps the engine run?.

The reason i'm asking as i'll be fitting brake ducts to my car and this is kinda in the way slightly.
Any help would be greatfull

Filters fuel vapour or something like that. Crappy EU regulations.

Bin it, I did the same when I removed mine for my brake vents. You do have to block some pipes than go into it though.

Ok if i bin it what about the pipes what danfreemanphoto said? do i have to block them up or can i just bin them all together?

I think you only need to block the pipe that runs to the plenum (avoiding air leaks). The pipe from the tank to the cannister can stay open as the tank needs to vent when filling up or the fuel expanding due to warm weather. And you need to keep the solenoid plugged in or replace it with a resistor or your MIL will come on.
