Anyone at Oulton Park for the Gold Cup today?

Yep, I was there from about 12pm...

I wasn't driving today, was in my mate's sick mk1 XR2 track /race car!!

A mate of his (Andy Jones) was racing an Imp in the afternoon's penultimate race. He was 15th on the grid, down to 14th when he had a major 'moment' coming out of Cascades on the first lap - then fought his way back up to something like 7th iirc, coming 2nd in class... Was a superb drive...

He was the blue and silver Imp, getting it sideways every time he went into Knickerbrook... So rapid for a 1 litre!!

Those Imps were rapid little feckers. Quite funny seeing them in amongst a field of other cars including Lotus Cortinas and Mustangs!

Was your m8's XR2 a white one with a centre-exit exhaust? Spotted that one earlier and it looked well smart.

Indeed - was a really entertaining mix of old machines - I didn't think I'd enjoy it as much as I did...

Did you see the single seater thing (Formula Junior or something) do a cartwheel at Knickerbrook at the end of the previous race? Driver got taken away in an ambulance... :dapprove:

My mate's XR2 can best be described as 'white & rust' in colour with blue decals and various stickers etc... It looks like an old nail but goes so hard! :D I don't think it's the one you are thinking of - not just because it doesn't have a center-exit exhaust, but noone ever describes it as 'smart' - normally just 'hardcore'!! :rasp:

I didn't see the crash, but we did go down to Knickerbrook at one point. Surely to god those old Lolas weren't under the noise regs? I think they must be the loudest cars I've ever heard at Oulton. Maybe they get special permission for one weekend or something?

Loved the old rally cars on the rally stage too. Such a shame the old Group B nutter machines weren't there again like last year. Maybe they were there on the Sunday though?

I must have missed you m8's XR2 then - lol @ the 'white & rust' colour! :)
