Anyone else get really really frustrated that they cant get cheap insurance ?

  Shed.
Being 18, i get hit hard by the insurance companies. its begining to f**k me right off. Im not one for going down 30mph zones at 80, or driving like a bell end. Im sick driving in a 1.2 16V. They can be fun, sometimes, but on a straight, its about as fun as trying to open a can of beans with an ipod.

If the engine sounded like the 172 does than itd be a bit better.

tell me, does it feel good, being about to get insured on a 172 for less than a grand lol ?

yes im 18. 1 yr exp and 0ncb, no claims or accidents or convictions.

too young !!!!!!!!

i cant get on my car for less than £950

tbh get some NCB then build up to a 172 etc.

you may be able to get into a 1.6 after 1 year for ok money.

postcode lottery is as always hugely important

In a years time with a years ncd it'll drop, then maybe you could insure a bigger engined clio more easily.

dick

im 19, a year older than lsat year, (suprisingly) and another years NCB, can only get like £100 less than last years premium!!

One good thing about being older, I have just paid my years fully comp (protected insurance) on my V6, group 20D, £384 for the year :)

thats 4yrs NCD, as some shithead knicked my last car (5GT Turbo) 4 years ago :(

It's part of life, I recall paying over a grand TPFT for a 1 litre Cinquey when I first passed!

It makes you appreciate cheaper insurance when you're of an age where you are ready to upgrade your car though...

i have never paid more than 1k for insurance infact i think the most i paid was 900 ish and that was on the 172 for my first year my first car only cost 600 fully comp that was my xr2

No short cuts to cheap insurance, that's just the way it is and you have to just rack up the NCDs and the years behind the wheel.

There are some advantages to getting older....cheap insurance is one of them:D

try this site, it's new, you post your details and brokers outbid each other for your insurance - I just did it for the Trophy and saved around £60 a year on renewal prices - not a massive amount, but didn't pay a lot anyway.

As has been said no shortcuts everyone has been there

Although my valver when I was 18/19 only cost about £600-700 from memory. At 20 the MR2 Turbo cost £900 for first year then £740, fiat coupe 20VT cost £680, and then £620.

Just bought an S3 and that with wheels, brake upgrade, remap costs me £546 fully comp

First car was a Corsa 1.2 8v with 45bhp- £1400!!
Next was my 1.4 Clio S with 75bhp and a 6 month ban for careless driving- £1500

Dropped now to about £400 for my 1,6 16v megane but yeah you just gotta put up with it :(

I'm paying about £400 on the shed with protected NCB. Quoted £490 for the same policy on the CTR with a named driver. Being old rocks. The only thing you can do is either drive shitty cars until you're older, or stump up the cash now :)

mines awful, i was 17 when i got my car and insured if for 2k fully comp. OUCH! How much does a years ncb make when i come to renew my insurance? If i went for a car like say a group 8 or 9 do you think id get an affordable premium after a years ncb?

depends, if you can afford 2k then prolly. Itll come down a bit (im speaking from doing tests with insurance quotes - diff ncb,and age)

It comes down with age, slowly, but surely.

It just sucks though. my 1.2 is slow as s**t and i still get raped. Was considering moving to a ped the other day. Tax, petrol and insurance is all cheap as shizzle lol. But for obvious reasons.

Sucks dont it. I start full time work next month so im probably going to save up and change my car in January next year when i hopefully get my 1 years ncb. Thinking a clio 1.6 or a Cooper. Not sure really, still a long time to go, just need more power!!!

Taylor, I don't mean to have a go, but why is every comment from you recently so negative?

So, you've had a bad experience from Renault, you have a choice but just don't appear to be taking it. You're not obliged to post comments in this thread and you are not obliged to own your 172.

I really don't see the relevance in your comment with regards to this thread. The guy's not asking if he should get a RenaultSport, just airing his frustration at insurance prices.
