Mate works at renault service just rang him he said... top turret mount needs grinding out top suspension bearing with front shock adsorber kit to do whole job..hmmm both sides apprently

I'm thinking they've quoted him for the bearing and top mount Fred not just the bearing, both sides are about £100 odd before fitting so might explain the silly high price.

That mod is a warranty mod, if they are planning on charging you tell them to piss off.

nope COMPLETLE top mount kit is 7701207806 £51.73+vat per side

why does it need new shocks?

I'd assume THIS and, although there is no picture, THIS is what's needed, possibly the washers as Fred has linked you too...if you can actually get any that is.

had mine done today!!!!!

£47 for the part ( comes with the full kit), and £20 for labour at my local garage.

It's quite shocking that the car ever made it to production with banging, creaking, and skipping tyres. My First Suspension Geometry?

Think i might just get it done as have got the money atm seems the spacers do sort it in some cases but others saying have problems. Least renault do grind it out proper and replaced tho still 380quid hmmm not sure 50/50

they are wrong wrong wronged wrong (well they're going by the book) and you me boy are mad for even thinking about spending nigh on £400 on sorting a problem which can be sorted for under £100

Don't pay them to grind metal out of the car, wont solve the problem and will more likely result in the car starting to rot as they will no doubt make a right mess of it and leave bare metal open to the elements.

this is why renault and dealerships in general have such a bad name. yeah buy the part from them, but take it to a local reputable garage or a specialist and they'll do it much cheaper.

Blimey, that's rather a lot of money!

To put it in perspective, I recently had new discs and pads fitted up front, new pads at the back, my dash removed to replace a blown bulb in the clock display, two new hand brake cables and a new bolt in the mount of my gearbox (it snapped!) for £300.

Reputable, local garages FTW.

Keep us updated though :)

^ think about it fella the struts need to rotate at the top as you turn the wheel which turns the hubs which turns the suspension struts which rotates the bearing . . .

I've just clocked 42k and think mine are on way, will go for solid ones though

I'm in two minds over solid top mounts.

I'm currently on OE suspension, that will change for Sportlines and then possibly coilies at a later date, funds/trackdays dependant. I'll probably only do three or maybe four trackdays a year and I just can't decide if they would be a worthwhile investment, at roughly three times the cost of OE. Whilst I'm just rocking OE suspension or lowering springs I'll probably stick to OE top mounts and then consider solids as part of the cost of coilies if/when the time arises.

Just put the washers in today recomended by Fred but no luck at all still got the noises when on full lock reversing out of drive and pulling away. Also when go round right hand corner get a knock from passenger side.
Is this a bearing/top mount replacment? If so do people recomend solid top mount or renault one again?

Cheers

Good point mate . I thought the supension remained stationary. Presumed that just the hub moved. Never really noticed when i was doing my brakes. Good to know though.

44k miles and offside knocking like feck!

Replaced them with K-tec solid top mounts, 10x better than OE Renault rubbish mounts.

Went to order the top rubbers and bearings at a local ECP yesterday but they had no stock.

Instead, they ordered me an SKC (sp?) kit that does both sides for like 40 quid instead of 60 odd.

Well see what the quality is like when they get it in tomorrow.

If its shat its going back
