anyone know the history of this 182? potentially buying

  182 Cup/V70 D5
Hiya guys,

after days and days of texting and calling and pm'ing people I've found an ad for a 182 where it is actually still available (so many active ads where people haven't taken it down or updated their thread with the word 'sold' anywhere). This one's based in Sale in Gtr. Manchester, but had it's belts and water pump done at renault in leeds in 2012 - just wondering if anyone on here has owned it/owns it etc. always good to look up history of the car where possible... Thanks in advance, paul w

Maybe ask to see the receipt for the belt change and call the garage. We regularly get calls asking to confirm work was actually done... or not in the case of a recent eBay vehicle

cheers Mick, I'll have a check - the listing says "All belts and Water Pump done in 2012 by Queens Renault specialists in Leeds (currently away from home so cant check specifically when in 2012 at the moment)". I'll give them a call and actually check they're a proper renault specialist

cheers man, just spoken to them - the guy on the phone said it had cam belt and aux belt done in jan 2012 but not the dephaser.. gonna go do some reading up on de-phaser now to see what implications it might have.

Going on my last conversation i wouldn't feel that confident with belts from queens. See above thread.

Also that car is probably one of the least desirable combos in terms of colour and not having the spoiler.

I appreciate the comment from the garage being wrong in that the water pump is a separate job, but the timing belt having been done nearly 3 years ago and the car still running around gives me a bit of confidence, and at least the water pump has (hopefully) been done if the guy does it as part of a cam belt job.

Re the spoiler - there's one on there at the minute? Is it a non standard colour for 182 clio? Or because it's not a cup? (apologies if I sound a bit dumb on this, still learning the difference between cup/non cup/which cup packs are which/what's ok etc..). Thanks for the replies so far guys :)

It's probably my eyes but that drivers door looks a slightly different shade of silver compared to the two adjacent panels...

Aftermarket exhaust and some weird stickers too on the side, oh and wind deflectors!

I agree @kayzee I thought that on the top photo but the last one pretty much confirmed it for me! Is that a normal thing though for this colour as the wings are plastic so changes the hue ever so slightly? What's yours like Nick?

I noticed the colour variance on the drivers door as well.... something to check over when I go see it.

Apparently the wind deflectors have fallen off. I say apparently, I meant fortunately. Scorpion RS 192 exhaust apparently? Stickers are coming off. It's gonna be a weekend/road legal track car so doesn't have to be the most immaculate example, just something fun to fill the gap where motorbikes used to be :)

Got tbh apart from the mileage it does zero for me. And at £3k you would get a very nice rb or bg with sensible miles. Stick a wanted thread up. Have to be a ff aswell. All imo :)

not wanting to stir up anything personal about lee but in previous posts he's asked about welding driveshaft circlip's in because his have fallen out twice, apparently the engine was making a horrible grinding sound around 1500rpm etc.. I did message lee asking for a few more pics and info but he's said it's in a lock up and not being driven at the minute. Probably a brilliant track project for someone with a good budget to allow for any unexpected issues but I'm on a £3k tight budget. n.b. there's a clip of Lee's 182 at knock hill on youtube (search for clio 182 vs focus st), looks absolutely rapid on the straights!

cheers guys - hope I haven't broken any forum slander rules at all, like I say I've messaged lee and he's been very obliging, but the spec I'm after/budget I have are very much suited to a particular car so can't really risk it on something which has an apparent hard life etc. Thanks again for all your help and guidance though :)

Looks like a nice car but again with lack of history, cracked windscreen, Serv light etc. Sounds a bit of a dog, there's sone really nice RB cups for a few hundred more :) thanks though :)

Cracked windscreen will cost £70 through insurance which isnt bad consideringyou will then have a brand new windscreen on the car.

Service light could be sorted by someone with a diagnostics easily enough. Doesnt it mention abs loght too at the same time? If so, an abs ring would probably be the issue? Again, around £60 to sort.

Sticker shows belt has just been done. Obviously not sure where at and what has been changed though.

If i was looking for a 182, i would go for this. It looks like it needs a good service and clean and you would have yourself a very low mileage 182 that doesnt appear to have been messed with already.

I'd disagree tbh. £3k is good money and there are plenty out there with proper proof of belt change, no cracked windscreen etc.

Im mainly referring to it being a ver low mileage one. I agree with what you are saying, but they will all be 65k +

Just bide your time mate , something good will probably come up when you least expect it . Personally i wouldn't want to buy a car then have to sort out a cracked windscreen and the service light on . The service light might be something and nothing , but It's gonna cost you to find that out then it " might " be something more serious than first expected , so more £££ . Better play it safer than sorry .

After Christmas people will try and free up some money for a new car, so just hang fire and a decent one will turn up.

Hiya guys thank you for all the comments, didn't realise asking about the history of a 182 would stir up so much interest = good readership, I like.

I'm viewing one tomorrow (RB cup) so will report back. Thanks for all the suggestions & info & stuffs, really appreciate it.
