Not seen much solid information about the new phone.

Wonder if it will be an 8 or an X (being the 10th year). I hope they do something special and not just move a button around..

Most rumours at the moment are pointing towards a glass casing with aluminium frame like the 4/5, with OLED screen (although potentially on the plus only) and face/eye recognition.

The newest rumour that has come out is regarding the screen size, and that the size of the phone will stay the same but the screen size will increase, reducing the size of the bezels, as well as a potential deletion of the home button and have virtual buttons at the bottom of the phone.

No - good god no! It's one of THE best features about the physical aspect of the iPhone. I've had both Windows and Android works phones and when the silly little three icons are on the bottom of the screen, I've lost count of how many times I press those instead of the bloody space bar.

I've only just gone to my iPhone 7 at the weekend from my previous 5. Liking the upgrade upgrade so far - definitely quicker, better screen and being new - much better battery! That should do me for a good few years yet - as have my previous iPhones. I really, really don't want to be railroaded down the cutesy green robot path, if I can help it.

Same here. I've gone from Android to Apple as the I didn't like the current android offerings. I've got a 7 plus and the only rival really was the Pixel but I hated the fact it didn't have a proper home button.

Weird isn't it? All of these manufacturers are trying to cram feature after feature into their software - and yet we're primarily concerned about a single button!

I'm hoping it's something different really after the relative disappointment at the 7 (from me anyway)
I also really hope they iron out the issues with it quickly, people I know are only just moving to the 7 and are still taking them back for faults etc.

I am really into my music gear and as such have a few sets of speakers and headphones around the house in various rooms. I also work in music retail and have to do Speaker demos as part of my job.

So I'd either have to have a handful of adaptors around the house and in each pair of jeans or drop a few hundred quid on a wide band 2.4ghz receiver to use with the phone. Pointless using a shitty £50 amazon bluetooth receiver on a £6k rig at work or on my Very high quality home set ups, may as well just get a little Bose dock.

When the technology gets better and cheaper maybe, but bluetooth sound just isn't there yet. We sell £600 wireless microphones at work and they still don't sound as good as many cheaper wired mikes, because all the clarity is lost over the wireless. The bluetooth used by phones is a narrower band width and suffers even more.

Surely the obvious thing is to buy ipod to keep for that sort of stuff?

There are already a couple of android phones with no headphone jack. It's no doubt going to become more common before eventually no phones will have them.

Hopefully it will force the development of wireless headphones sound quality to speed up.

I don't listen to music other than on the radio, so don't think I've ever used the jack on any of my phones.

For what reason would you need a handful of adaptors? You can only use one at once, just carry it with you

That would be a solution, but it just wouldn't be practical. I would forget it from time to time or find myself wanting to use downstairs speakers and realise I've left it upstairs.

Thats a good shout actually, rather not carry them both around/keep them charged though.

I wasn't aware of that. But yes hopefully wireless tech will make a leap forward and become much better. Don't get me wrong, I've no complains on bluetooth in the car as its handy, but then act speakers are limited quality anyway.

I don't want to fill this thread up with me being a moany c**t but it just frustrates me, it was a very unnecessary move on Apple's behalf. I'd love a new iPhone 7 but I just can't get past it yet. I am a new MacBook user also and can live with the lack of usb-a, but it has caught me out a few times. I'm sure the 8 will be awesome and I'll probably get over it and buy one by the time they are released.

Innovation in the phone market is dead, a slightly bigger screen, it might be 0.02mm thinner, I can't see why people still anticipate new phones?

Also, I am a bit miffed at the idea of using an iPhone as your music player when you have high end audio equipment? If you were a real audiophile, wouldn't you have an external soundcard/audio interface connected to a PC/Laptop to retain the highest sound quality? Plus how much loseless can you fit on an iPhone?

The next iphone I think won't have the home button, fingerprint recognistion on screen. I think they patented it already.

For the Android doubters there has never been a better time to buy one in fainress.

My biggest problem with android is I love iMessage on iPhone, to much, it just works so well and far as I know they don't back up like iPhones do?

Totally agree. I'm all for innovation and new ideas. But adding something for little-to-no benefit - smacks of an overpaid design team really scratching their heads for ideas. The audio jack has been out for decades and works. Just leave it alone.

Probably habit more than anything. I've generally skipped a generation before even considering a new phone. I don't quite understand the obsession with changing every 6 months that some people seem to have.

It's a shame m8, because I simply don't like Android. It feels incomplete and messy - like a proverbial work-in-progress. Even on the higher-end Android devices, it looks sharp on screen, but is far from a nice, logical and smooth process that I'm used to with the iOS devices. Conversely, it appears way to over-complex for the majority of users who simply message, phone and use social media. The menus within menus of sub-menus is bewildering.

I sit in a room of software devs all day - and their hatred for iOS knows no limits. But due to their roles, they love the fact that they can control the dishwasher from their phone with a specific app - or run a dedicated query due to some hacky plug-in that bypasses the core Android OS. I simply can't be arsed with all that crap. I want my phone to work on a platform that's been tried and tested. I know that an iPhone 7 comes with iOS. I know that a 6 Plus will come with the same version of iOS. Yet with Android, I've seen Sony have their own variation of it. HTC put what they deem important in. Then Motorola add their own features and it just bugs the crap out of me. My previous works Motorola was a gnat's dick different than the other Motorolas that the newer staff got. Yet they could have an email configuration pointing straight to Exchange and mine couldn't. I could get it working by going another way around the issue - but I shouldn't have had to do that in the first place.

We've got nearly 180 mobiles in the business now and thankfully, the core oversight of those no longer passes through my hands. And in the years I used to deal with them, I had one iPhone - just one - that packed in under normal daily usage. The Android phones are significantly worse in terms of build quality - with many being returned or replaced. I've lost track on how many times we've had to wipe and restore the Android ones too.

Don't get me wrong - the Bitten Fruit is far from flawless. They are overpriced and on a technical level - are clearly outpaced by other manufacturers. But as a complete package for a phone or tablet - they are my primary choice.

I legit could see them ditching the on/off button some time in the future and just have it always on.

It's the sort of f**king stupid thing they do in "the name of design aesthetics" or some other bullshit.

Plus then it will always be on, listening to you and watching you, so Apple can build up more data on you to try and control your life even more.

Rumours at the minute are that they are ditching the lightning port and are going to use a USB-C.

Rumours are that they're going to remove the inbuilt touch screen because it takes up too much space, and replace it with a larger battery and improved integration with the Apple Watch.

Bit off topic but relates to the new phones.
Tried some of the new wired headphones, they are crap. Volume is so low even when max plus they fall out whenever you try do any form of exercise.

Plus the wireless ones are £180!!!!! WTF!!!

Its such a joke though, how can they warrant such a price tag on such a poor product!
Apple.

The standard Apple User will suck up any old s**t they turn out, and would rather be seen naked and covered in tramps feaces, than being within 300yds of a Samsung

If you don't like apple products don't buy them, no ones forced you to. There are other Bluetooth headphones available.

Be interesting if they manage to get the Touch ID into the screen.
A few websites seem to be suggesting it will be moved to the back of the phone which would put me off.
Although I would still probably buy it anyway.😂

Doesn't one of the android have this?
Suppose its just one of those things you would get used to.

Im hoping its got a bigger screen. I find the 7 is too small and the 7+ too big. The S7 is around the same size but has a bigger screen and the new s8 even bigger.

My mate has the S8+ and its still pretty compact.

Latest rumour is that the 7S/7S Plus will be the same size and design as the 7/7 Plus with upgraded internals... and the 8 will be the 'premium' phone with VR capabilities (whatever that means exactly) Touch ID under the screen, wireless charging, new glass design, reduced bezels, better dual camera setup etc. and won't be released until October/November or possibly into 2018.
