Apple 8/X

Unlikely.
It'll get the same treatment as all other Apple portables, and be no better than a brick in 3 years.

I'm using a 5 year old iPhone 5 today with zero problems (well apart from the screen looking like it's been polished with a Brillo pad)

Except no-body is doing development for the "out of date" 32-bit iOS and apps.

By the same token, I've got a gen1 iPad mini, and that struggles to run skype now. Was fine when i got it, but since apps and op.systems are built for the most recent tech available, my 5 yr old device can barely deal with Safari.

I get your point, I just doubt they'll neglect the opportunity to do a minor update to the X just to suck another £1200, per person, out of the fanzone. As a company, flooded with sycophants, you just would, it's a no-brainer

Next generation X (X S?) will have touchID in the display IMO, they wanted it for this gen but the technology to make it work in such a slim package with OLED isn't quite there yet. It will be interesting to see how FaceID works in reality, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now but I can't see how it's going to be as convenient as TouchID. Would be rare for Apple to make a usability c**k up like that but it has happened.
I agree with this. I however think Samsung will be one of the first mainstream to he party as they are supplying the screens to apple and many others.

This is the same with any tech though. A 5 year old laptop will be running a lot slower than it did when new, this isn't unique to Apple.

I completely agree that the X will be 'upgraded' next year though, why break the habit of a lifetime?

Don't know if its just me, but prices seem through the roof (not that it suprises me) it just seems at a time when salaries have hardly moved phones are nearly costing twice as much as they used to. I don't see me moving from my 6 Plus anytime soon.

Feel exactly the same £1000 is taking the piss.

One myth I would like to put to bed. It's not a bezeless screen. Those sides are massive on the X.

They should have done like the essential phone and made the area at the top a black line to help with apps and videos etc.

O2 have just called me...

no pricing on the X but the 8 (non plus, 256GB) works out to be:

£60 up front (- £100 loyalty bonus)
£51 per month (5GB data, - £5 loyalty bonus).

Just been into apple, the number of people asking to buy an iPhone X was entertaining....

Went for a SE came out with a 7 because pauper.

First time I can remember in a long time that a phone has gone on sale and hours later you can still buy one for in-store pickup on release day, both storage sizes as well.

Either Apple have reached the tipping point at which people are willing to upgrade for the sake of it (and it being pretty expensive now) or a lot of people are waiting for the X to go on sale.

Definitely the latter.

I think it's definitely mostly it, I also think the fact that they've removed the 128GB tier (which to me and a lot of people is just about spot on) is also a factor so you're either paupering out and paying a lot for a 64GB device or you're paying an extortionate amount for a 256GB device, nearly a grand for 8 Plus! That's a lot of money for a phone that is effectively a minor upgrade over last years model.

That said, my wife is convinced she wants an 'X' so she'll be getting one when they're on sale. Seriously, she wants the Animoji that much. lol

I remember when 64gb was top or mid storage, now it's Pauper level lol.

That said, I've not managed to fill my 64gb 6s and that's only recording in 4K/highest resolution everything. Maybe it's because I don't bother with many apps or music?

I rang EE for a quote on the 8 because I don't know whether I want that or a 10 and the 8s are surprisingly cheap. Starting at £47pm for 64gb/10gb data.

Im tempted to pay and extra fiver and get a 256gb though. Just because in case.

Or do I wait for a 10? Hmmm

My god the X looks s**t in white/silver.
I really don't understand the love for the screen either. It doesn't go edge to edge at all??

Edge to edge screens are a bit meh IMO, never liked them, quite happy that there's still a little bit of bezel. The actual quality of the screen is supposed to be amazing, all of the hands-on tests I read commented on it and that's what really matters. Thing is it's not a right/wrong thing, personal preference and choice at the end of the day.

Personally I'd always go SIM only for any phone these days, apple do their own 0% finance so get it from them, the phone is unlocked and you can get whatever SIM-only deal you fancy - e.g. the 64Gb 8 for £36.50 a month plus a 3 SIM only with 12Gb data and unlimited text/calls for £14 a month - £50.50 a month and after just over a year and a half you own the phone.

I think the silver one looks great tbh.
Looks nice with the screen lit but have you actually seen it with a black screen???

I'm not a fan of that bit at the top, does anyone know if it cuts the screen off in line with it when playing videos?

Yes probably. Kinda getting on my nerves looking at it tho. Haha. It defeats the object of edge to edge surely..?

By default videos/games will play behind the bezel but there is an option for videos at least to blackout either side of the bezel and resize the video.
