Are all plasmas piss poor for football?

  Mk2 Golf GTI
I went to look at a load of TVs the other day and all the plasmas looked crap for the football, really blocky and couldnt keep up.

I looked at cheap ass Bush's right up to £2k+ Sony's and they all looked poor to me.

Will it be any better with HD TV?

Most likely to be the digital compression rather than the screen itself. If anything a decent Plasma will be better than LCD for footy.

yeh, its usually due to the crap compression by the provider. you really do notice it more on larger screens

As said, hi def is the way to go

After playing back a few hi def things through mine i was thoroughly impressed. you really do get a crisp image

Defo wasn't too close. My mates also got one but i'm not sure if it's LCD or plasma. It's a sony 42" and set him back £2100 but the quality of football was awful, i couldnt watch a whole game like that

Like we've said the bigger the screen the worse the digital compression appears onscreen. Go back to your mates and stick one of the music channels/shopping channels on and it will look 100 times worse.

really you need to turn off stuff like black strech all noise reduction any picture processing and turn the brightness down and the contrast too as they all make thepicture look s**t

with a 42" tv you should be sat 12-14" away really

plasma's have been way over hyped for the football.

loads of adverts with HD plasmas for the best experience of watching football....

yeah all very well and good but they are still broadcast in normall digital not HD so theres no difference.

bet they got loads of sales from the suckers!

ment plasmas/LCd's in general. theyve over hyped the HD stuff for the football.

sky HD is a con at the mo too.

well yes for sd you cant beat crt but thats because it hides th eproblems of sd sources much better than hd displays as they just highlight the faults in the source

Well my 40" LCD with SKY HD looks AWESOME for the football.....the England match was so much better than SD :) (I flicked back to SD just to see the difference...lol)

The only real problem with SKY HD, is there are not enough program really yet, but who gives a sh*t.....its only money ;) :)

i got a 43" pioneer plasma with sky hd thats the b****cks. and a 32" samsung lcd. the lcd is good for what it is, but the plasma rapes it. watching the football on bbc hd btw. as for sky hd its going up by a few hundred pounds soon, the first boxes were on special offer, which includes 300GB and free install, the new boxes will have a smaller hard drive etc

Funny that because I also have a 42" plasma that doesn't look as good as the 40" LCD in HD? Plasma's are crap at high res and high colours, but look good in Black's.....lol ;)

The number of people who's houses I've been to with TVs set up in the wrong aspect ratio, and with a PAL rather than RGB output selected annoys me

Exactly mate.. Like asking a Renault mechanic about the 197. He'd probably tell you it was twin turbo'd.
