Attracting the wrong kind of attention

Mine used to get quite a bit of attention considering it looked fairly standard.

I live on a road with two schools and the lads used to sometimes come onto my drive to look at the car, personally i didnt want the car to appeal to the Max Power generation but it did. I had a little group of chavs came up to me on a petrol station forecourt saying the car was sweet (and also said "Can i have a drive" lol) too, something i wasnt comfortable with.

On the motorway it was a pain in the ass, i used to overtake people and those people i overtook would overtake me back, they just had to prove dominance!

Id always get a few looks that i felt proud of, i used to get people stare at the car on the motorway quite often but on the whole most of the attention was from little kids and boy racers. It made it easier to let the car go.

i find when im driving the willy im left alone, its when im driving other cars people wanna race, oh you do get the odd honda civic 1.4 trying it on, but i dont even want the waste the fuel!

I thought Id have this problem when I bought the V6.............wasnt even sure where Id be able to park it...................but it seems that all EVERYONE wants to do is ask questions about it..............thats 10 to the dozen...........even chavs just look and then ask all the usual..................I dont even need to watch where I park :D

I must say, my cliosport sticker has become a bit of chav/van driver/boy racer magnet.

I get quite a few very annoying people pumping their horns at me, of course I think "have I missed a green light?" but when I look around they are just giving me the thumbs up. I tend to nod respectfully when I see a Williams, but I wonder if Im giving the wrong signals out as they zoom away as if I wanted a race  ( dont do road racing or small fry )

Im amazed at the number of people who ask, "So did you do all the mods yourself?" and are surprised when I reply, "No, I bought it from Renault like that, complete with the engine on the back seat!"...

Id parked out the front of a shop and was queuing up to pay for a paper. Id seen these chav lads out front looking at the car and they then came in asking some arbitary bloke "hey, Mister, is that your car". Decided it was best to volunteer that it was mine. Apparently theyd been out front arguing over whether it was original or a kit. Then had 5-10 minutes of "told you it was made like that mate", "is it one of those Williams Cups" (sic), a long with various ooohhs and arrhhs as I started it up, gave it a few revs and showed them round. Ended up with "can you give me a lift home Mister" (err, no Im going the absolute opposite way ;)), and "can you be my Dad Mister" ... I kid you not!! Gets a suprising amount of respect (and even manners) from kids whod usually be out pinching bits off cars!

Aust1n come on lets hear them.... this thread is all about annoying experiences from boy racers etc.. ;)

Maybe people see the arches and bonnet vent and assume I have modded it

Darn it I love the looks of it though!:D

^^^^ trust you, you boy racer, lol^^^^^^

i havet rwally experinced much since owning my valver, sometimes it is annoying letting it warm up but it is good because it gives you chance to calm down.

i have had one experience with the valver, a mrk3 golf gti tailgated me all the way through a 30, when i got to the 60 i was gone, ass

I cant say Ive noticed any attention from other drivers in my 172:confused:

In fact Im suprised that any 172/182 drivers feel their car stands out so much as its one of the most understated hot hatches out there. Unless you go out of your way to be noticed that is...

I could understand it a bit more for valver owners due to the big arches and the mean bonnet etc. It just looks like it means business!

Yeah I get a fair few stares from people noticing the bonnet in the rear view mirror.

I can tell a 172 a mile away but im just sad.

agree^^^^^

my 182 in racing blue seems to get quite a few nobs chasing it...

i think with a car in this colour in a small town has to be careful as you can easily get recognised...

the thing that annoys me is that any1 over 30 who has a car like a modded scoob or EV0 or sumfing along those lines, think that im just a 17year max power freak, and will not speak to me about there car. dont get me wrong i read the magazines. but i dont drive a UFO at 100mph everywhere. i have a clio which has rally inspiration and i do know that a 1.2 is not a WRC car. but how many 17 year old drive a evo8 stripped out with full rally spec???

couldnt agree more m8 i hate the fact that because i have a heavilly modified car means that i automatically get put in the boy racer bracket....for one it was bought brand new its had 10 grand spent on it dont think any little tw*t could afford just as much as we all spend on our cars......i cant race my car cos its too slow and i wouldnt want to because of the hard work that has been put into getting it the way it is.....boy racers buy novas and rag the tits off them and give car enthusiasts such as our selves a bad name

rant over :)

^^^ I agree! Problem solved - just forget those fools and keep clear of road-rage! You and your car will be fine:)

Id say that Pups is a pretty little thing, rather than a stunner, so Im astonished not that people say nice things about it, but how many people say nice things about it. One of my clients car park attendants said: "cool car - is it like a Williams?" (erm, not quite), while petrol attendants have said: "that looks fast" or "is that one a turbo?", plus a whole heap of comments about the interior, or just plain old "I like your car - its well nice", and it does seem to get a lot of looks on the move. I dont get much hassle, but then I dont drive much during the week anyway.

It is a nice car!

attention of the wrong variety can be a compliment, they see your car, think its fast and want to race it, it is then down to you to decided whether you want to race them (turning it into bad attention)

^^^^what b****cks did i just type, na i agree people trying to race is dam annoying ^^^^^^^

I bought my 182 as i wanted somethin more discreet after my modded scooby. It got rather tiresome having people stop and stare all the time, not being able to park anywhere, and setting car alarms off when i drove past ( especially on early shift ) . I feel almost invisible now!

id say that im guilty of it,a lot of the time i do it see wot other cars r like eg see how much faster a type r is.Im sure every1 on here has done it one time or another !
