Audi S3 8P Incoming

Following on from my thread looking for advice and opinions regarding S3s, I've finally found a good one! Many turds along the way, and hassle finding the right car. This can be seen in my previous thread... https://www.cliosport.net/threads/audi-s3-8p-advice-alternatives.813878/.

Onto the car then, this one had been for sale for a while on AT however I hadn't really noticed it until last week. Made an enquiry with the dealer, they sent details through including a a video of the car which was great service and enough for me to make the journey down. The car was in Lincoln so drove down yesterday morning to view the car and drive it, it was better than described and I loved it immediately! I'd say the the dealer undersold it by not indicating that the car had brand new wishbones, new Conti sport tyres and a full cat back Miltek exhaust on it, all very nice surprises.

Anyway, the details: Condor grey, 69k, Dsg. Some of the spec includes Bose, Bluetooth, aux, iPod connectivity, cruise control and two tone silk nappa leather. A price was agreed and delivery sorted for this coming week. It'll be going straight into a specialist though for some jobs that I want doing, specifically a cambelt and water pump, DSG oil change and haldex service. There is history of them being done, but not for a while so for piece of mind and the ability to get cheap parts I'm having them done myself. This was negotiated into the sale price.

Looks great! This is the facelift right? Much newer looking.

Any plans after the service items sorted? Quite a few places can map these with a decent result.

Looks great classy colour! If it Has had dsg oil at 40k it Only needs doing every 40k.

Yeah must admit not a fan of the colour via those pictures... does it have a blue tint? Kind of an in between colour. I think as these are quite subtle in their looks, they need something like a bright colour to show them off. Still a cool purchase though and I like the interior! Well I would say that as seats look like mine :cool:

No immediate plans other making sure its mechanically perfect, in the future it will probably be remapped and a downpipe adding. Over 300bhp from a standard remap.

I work for a motor parts dealer (for the rest of the week anyway), and I know a lot of our supplier reps very well.

As for the colour, it is a bit different, but was much nicer in person IMO. It wasn't my first choice, however trying to find a more lairy colour in the spec i wanted, at my budget was nigh on impossible. The main thing to me was that I didnt want Black or Silver. Also, the tints are standard so not sure how it would look without them, so they'll stay for now.

Glad to see you finally managed to get one. Mine hasn't shifted yet, think i will lower the price quite a bit just to see it go. If you don't mind me asking what did you pay? Feel free to PM me if you prefer. I like the grey it's nice. If you need any advice on them give me a shout!

Sure it's a great car to drive and will be perfect for everyday, but i can't help but look at the E46 M3 behind it. That says a lot.

The thing i found with mine was that it was a great car to go up and down the motorway, very comfy and refined etc, but when you wanted to have fun and go round some twisty roads it was just boring. It seemed a bit soulless to me and didn't do enough to keep me entertained. The straight line performance is good, but the car didn't give me enough feel to have any confidence in it when pushing on. Didn't think much of Haldex either. I miss the all rounder nature of the car, but i would prefer something that was fun to drive all the time and i could put up with the sacrifices.

Had mine 4 yrs, pre face lift, 330 bhp, all the bells and whistles.
Tracked it and generally ragged it everywhere, never let me down.
Good-
FAST, solid, reliable, comfortable, almost practical and they hold money with good spec.
Bad-
HEAVY and regardless of age, a massive target for thieving b******s!
So I guess my good points out weigh the bad but the constant break in’s and the desire for a more track focused car lead me to the 182.
Enjoy the car mate. I did.

Unsure if it was mentioned already but its worth changing the cam follower on the high pressure fuel pump. An hours job and especially essential if you’re mapping it.

Yes mate, cam follower ordered to be changed straight away.

Hoping they're good for me with my S4 this year - been away from them for 3 years as I had the BMW before :(

Exactly what I did with Flux on my Clio 172. I literally couldn't get insurance with them unless it was modified so I was given a 3 week grace period to get them done

Flux offered me the exact same, a few weeks to fit two more mods, however I have no idea if I will do that in two weeks.

Anyway, car has just been delivered...

Some parts already stocked up and ready to go. Must say, I'm loving having a daily auto!

I need a favour also, for anyone with an S3, could you measure the placement of the S3 badge in the boot lid for placement please? Mine came debadged and I have a replacement here waiting to go on, but would like the exact position. This would be a big help.

Had the car a couple of weeks now and love it. It's been in for a health check, haldex service, DSG service, cambelt and water pump and cam follower so is in perfect shape for a while now.

More bonus points about the car I didn't even know when I bought it, it has front and rear H&R anti roll bars and is fully polybushed. The only thing I really want to do to it is a downpipe in the future and a remap and a new headunit.

Some pictures after a good drive up to Hartside yesterday. First time I've properly driven it in manual mode, it makes such a good noise when kicking it's teeth in.

Very sad to see Hartside the way it is, it was eery to say the least.

I loved mine, great car and they still look modern (facelift that is) given they are nearly 10 years old!

I'd put the standard badges back on and try and find a black optics kit.

Be weary on remap if you are still running original clutch and flywheel though it probably will make it slip at that age and mileage.

Also, I've never understood the Audi 2 tone, they're ugly as sin.

I won't leave it on a low though, you probably won't lose much money. I sold mine 2 years ago and they are still pretty much the same price.

I don’t think the clutch/mileage will have any problems tbh. Stage 1 runs sweet as a nut on these engines?

As per the pirate. Same engine as me, I'm mapped at 300/300 on original clutch at 114,000 miles. Been mapped since we'll before I owned it and it's fine.

Should also get the box mapped as it increases the clamping force of the clutch so they are even less prone to slipping.

@Slammed172 what's the black optics kit? Standard badges are going on as soon as I have positioning measurements to place them.

As echoed above, from all I've read and heard stage one shouldn't have any impact on the the clutch as it is.

Not sure thats entirely true, Warren - the Mk7 R manual has the worst of all slipping even on standard power, my old Edition 30 ran 307bhp for 30k hard miles and it was solid?

Every mapper I spoke to advised that the standard clutch in the mk5 gti cars wasn't recommended above 300lbft. Whereas the dsg they were happy to go beyond. No idea if it's the same part in the s3 etc, but seems pretty par for the course with vag. S4 the same, dsg takes power far better.
