Audi TT 225 - Progress

  TT 225
Back in March I bought an Audi TT 225. Haven't really kept a progress thread about it but I posted on TT-Forum last week about and exhaust modification I was looking into and I thought I may aswel copy it over to CS seeing as I've sort of lost touch with it. The TT has only had a V6 rear valance fitted, Forge007p diverter valve and Wakbox (drilled and slotted airbox) before last week. Enjoy.

Update: 14/12/2011

I posted a while ago about about having a back box chop. I bought a spare exhaust from a guy who worked at pipeworx so i picked it up last week and sneaked it into work to have a little play. Heres where I'm upto;

Perfect fit.

Grinded the top off to reveal this mess.

Began to remove the glass fibre, horrible stuff!

All glass fibre removed.

I plan to remove most of the pipework and narrow the airflow to a single chamber but I'm quite busy at the moment. I would of liked it to be on the car by Monday as I'm booked in at RS-Tuning for a Remap.

Cheers

Adam

Update: 14/12/2011

I've been really busy lately at work and with college so I'll just post a couple of pictures so you can all see where I'm going with this. Enjoy!

Cleaned! (sort of)

Pipes cut out both sides.

Blanks cut out of stainless to block the four holes that wont be used.

Holes Tigged up on one side only. It was a real pain to get in at the back of the box, not my best welding ever but it was really quite hard considering the contents are made out of 1mm stainless. I had to weld at about 45Amps so it took me ages.

I then opened up the mid box to see what was inside, I was thinking of doing a straight through pipe but it might be too loud. Whatever I decide, at least everyone has now seen what's inside these things.

I also had a Remap at RS-Tuning in Leeds on Monday. The lads there flashed my ECU to remove the really s**t map that was already on the car (I didnt realise there was one on - it made 212.2bhp). Then they installed a standard map and it made 204.4bhp. He then gave me the option of a REVO or his own map to which I let him install his own map on (as he had done with both of my mates Meganes). The results were 250.4bhp with 295ft*lb. Very happy!

Adam

P.s. Kris86 and johnbryan45 are the Megane owners for those of you who know them.

Good write up mate. Anymore pics of the TT.

What car do you have before it?

  TT 225
Cheers for that James haha! I've had more replies on here in 1 night than I did in over a week on TT-forum. Hopefully I should be Tigging the rest of it up tomorrow so it should be on for the weekend. I think I'm going to leave the mid box alone for now.

250bhp and 295lbft isn't bad for a hairdressers car ;)

You coming the Nandos meet on Saturday Adam? Its been a year or two since I last saw you.

  Nimbus Megane R26
looking good matey, you'll have to take me for a spin. Not been in it since "the day that will never be forgotten" at RS tuning.. ;)

  TT 225
Does the exhaust not resonate a bit with an empty box?

As James said, it's purely a trial so I don't know how this is going to turn out.

Brett, I think I might pop along on Saturday yes. Hopefully I'll be able to get this finished today and maybe on the car for tomorrow. (Who am I kidding!)

Kris, I can demonstrate decent torque if you do ;)

You not done that bloody exhaust yet?! :p

Good write up mate, that was a top day at rs tuning, you didn't have take some stick that day! (tony & guy racing).

Update: 19/12/11

The back box is now welded up (to the best of my ability). I'm sure there will be a pin hole I've not covered somewhere but until it's on it's pretty hard to tell. I've now handed the whole exhaust over to a contractor in work as I can't weld the mid box back up. The stainless is too thin and to weld at 25 amps takes far too long.

This means the mid silencer is being chopped out and replaced with 2.5" (65mm) hygienic pipe. Hope it isn't too loud ;)... pictures to follow.

  TT 225
I have just been informed that the mid box was made from Titanium and that's why I have been struggling. Hence, straight pipe going on ;)

Update: 28/12/11

Still waiting on my exhaust to be picked up from work! I thought I'd upload some powergraphs for you all from our recent trip to RS-Tuning. Very happy with the figures after seeing how bad my original powerfigures were.

Graph with old map. (I didn't even know it had one)

Graph with bad map again measured a month later than the one above. Measly figures.

Graph after a few different maps had been put on and tested. Standard vs New!

I have also been looking into this Turbo Inlet Pipe (TIP) from Badger5. It's 3" from the MAF all the way down to the turbo to help with feeding in as much air as possible. People on Audi and Seat forums have seen 20-30gsm of air increase and people have results of 9-12bhp increases despite Awesome-GTI claiming a 20bhp increase. Still, not bad for £150.

This picture is comparing the Badger5 TIP to standard. As you can see its HUGE!

A tip doesnt feel to make a massive difference but you do feel an improvement higher in the rev range.

Have u fitted the badger5 tip ? Also did you go Awsome today ? I wasn't sure weather they were open over Christmas and the TT forum seems to be down for me

  TT 225
Yep on my old Bora. Bill mapped my car too. Like i say, they make a difference and you do feel it.

Listening to alot of peoples opinions they seem to rate it as a worthwhile mod.

No, I didnt go. I don't really go on the TT forum alot but when I tried to log on yesterday I couldnt get on either. I've seen your car on there, looks nice!

  TT 225
Well, if you can "feel" a mod it cant be bad. :)

You're right! Did you have the V1 or V2 of this product Tom? Apparently the first version changed diameter from 3" at the MAF down to 2.5" where as the second version is 3" from the MAF all the way down.

Has the exhaust made this loud? My friend has a 225 with a decat, no centre silencer and power flow back box and it just has a whoosh sound. Got a lot of love for TT's. Hopefully join the club soon. I'll be keeping an eye on this

It's not been put on yet, I'm still waiting for it to be finished. When I told the guy at Pipewerx what I would be doing with it he said it would be really loud and that was with the cat and mid box so your mates exhaust being quiet really does suprise me?! This is a video of a 3" straight through exhaust that I found on YouTube. (What your mate will have but no back box)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQN1osnMtRI&feature=youtube_gdata_player

It's a little bit too loud for my liking but is still good!
