aux bearing in 172 drivers side drivehsaft

I recently jacked up my car, only to discover that the rubber boot that covers the aux bearing is missing. What the heck is that bearing for anyway? Can it be replaced, or is it new driveshaft time?

Theres the CV joint boot, which is there alright. Then there's another smaller boot in what appears to be a metal can--that's the boot I'm missing. It's completely gone.

Inner cv boot then. Yes it's new shaft time. As a professional, I would advise you shouldn't drive on it (if it siezed it'll do all sorts of damage) however in reality it's been fine for however long the boot has been missing, and another 2 days probably wouldn't hurt.
