Aux belt again. north west area.

  RB + LY 182 FF
my aux belt has come loose and is affecting my steering as well as screeching when driving. i took it back to the place who fitted both belts in december and he is not willing to fix it even tho the belt as come loose only 5 weeks after fitting it !! he says because i purchased the belt seperatly its the fault of the belt !!? i purchased both belts seperatly and took them to be fitted !
anyhow im now in need of my Aux belt being done. aint too sure if that means the tensioner as well ?!?

does anyone know of anyone around north west and how much am i looking to pay for the aux belt alone?

How do you know its loose?
If its loose i wouldn't be driving the car. If it comes off you will probably be paying for an engine rebuild. Did you not get them to change the tensior and pulley with the belt?

birchdown, it wont be the belt at fault but more than likely the tensioner they are often changed at the same time. be carefull driving it mate. if it snaps and finds its way into your cambelt your in trouble.

hi i aint sure if the tensioner was changed at the same time both belts was fitted in december and i purchased the car on jan 5th, my dad used to be a mechanic and my step dad also said the belt is loose, a garage had also said this. it could well be the tensioner im going getting it booked in asap. just wanted to know if there was anyone in north west who fitted them and were good.
and how much am i looking to pay ?

I recon the tensioner has gone overcenter and the pivot mechanism has corroded and is sticky so not auto-tensioning as it should. Ideally a new tensioner needed in this case, but it is repairable

Yep as above fella dont risk driving, My aux belt snapped at 20,000 and got fed into the cambelt, had to have a brand new engine under warranty.. renault wouldnt even rebuild it so they replaced the whole lot, Was lucky really as warranty covered it all, just checked the work report from them and the total cost came to £2,887.96.. sod that out of my own pocket

drive at your own risk !

just got a new aux belt kit from renault managed to get it for £90. so how much u reckon for someone to fit?

why is it that some garages dont change the pre-tensioner out at the same time as doing the aux belt + cambelt as standard. Its like £90 more but can save you hundreds if it needs replacing a few months down the line.

it doesn't always need doing, but it's pretty easy to tell. We carry one for the occasion it needs doing
