Aux belt shredded, Done Cambelt?

  Clio Sport 182
As per title.
My 182's aux belt started stripping itself the other day so stopped the engine straight away.
I'd just like to know is there any possibility the belt could have gone through the cambelt and knocked it out a tooth or two?
Is the cambelt fully enclosed in a cover to avoid this or would it be a possibility?
Appreciate any help on this, thanks!

Yea its common for the aux belt to go under the cambelt.

Chances are if it its still running ok then youve caught it in time.

was still running but wouldn't say it was running great!
It was a bit lumpy but don't know if that was to do with the belt flapping about and snagging on stuff!

The aux belt didn't snap but it just shredded on the outboard side
Cheers

might be coilpack, leads, plugs or lambda, the aux belt strips and wraps round the crank pulley ripping the cambelt off.

No aux belt isn't linked to the coilpack, leads etc. so thats nothing to do with it.
Also the car was still running so cambelt has not snapped or been ripped off.

Aux belt normally goes between the bottom crank sprocket and the belt, iv never seen this happen and the engine still run so i dont think you should be too worried.

Theres a chance the running problem is something else.

If it were me id lock the crank, pop the cam plugs out and have a look.

Just been taking it to bits now.
Pulled some bits of aux belt out from in the area but not in cambelt.
Cut off bits that were hanging off and started it to see how it was running(knowing that if the timing was out, the damage would already of been done.)
It just didn't sound quite right and when i lightly touched the throttle the revs would slow down and then pick up.

I'm fairly sure the timing has been knocked out which leaves me with two questions to ask.

1. where are the timing marks to be found? (on the top pulleys, the head, and the belt?)

2. What are the chances of a valve being hit if it has slipped just one or two teeth?
( I don't know what the tolerances are like on this head!)

Thanks in advance for your help guys.

Ok thanks for your help. I really don't know a lot about these engines, but where are the cam plugs located and do i need a tool for the crank locking or can i wedge something in?
Thanks

ive been working on cars for over 13 years, i know its not connected!!! im refering to your lumpy running, and also the belt wrapping round the crank pulley is an example!!! if yours is still running clearly this did not happen to you, if its running get your aux belt (kit) replaced done.

Theres a torx bolt on the front of the block below the oil filter, think its an E14 socket but not 100%. Remove it and you can insert a long 8mm punch or similar to lock the crank, obv cylinder 1/4 need to be on TDC to do this.

The cam plugs are on the gearbox side of the head, One big one small you cant miss them.

Ok. car was running fine 2 seconds prior to the belt shredding!

There are NO timing marks on the F4R 2.0 16v engine... it's totally keyless and requires the use of specific locking tools to correctly set and pin the timing.

Timing can be confirmed as being correct/incorrect by eye if the person doing it knows what they're looking at as posted above; pin the crank at TDC on No.1/4 and pop the end caps. You should be able to see both camshaft locking notches lining up perfrectly horizontal... If not, the timing is out. If I were you though I'd get someone out to look at it or take it to a specialist.

Update.
I have done a compression test on the head which said no. 1+2 were 200psi and 3+4 were 0 psi.
This obviously suggests bent valves, but i wondered if it could be to do with the timing being messed
up perhaps affecting the variable valve timing giving me no compression?
Any help or thoughts?
Thanks

at least 4 bent valves then, possibly 6 or 8
