Back in a Clio

It happened, sat about thinking what do I need a car for. Working from home has changed my reasoning about cars and decided that I didn't need anything decent as the most I use the car for my work would be 10 miles a week if I'm lucky. So plan starts to hatch. Track car. Then I saw the advert on here for wrc172s ph1. Gave him a pm and sat on the reserve list for a Sunday visit. Got a call from Ross saying it was still available so I took my son along to go over it. Couldn't argue on the condition and price so made an offer. Picked it up on Monday night and haven't stopped grinning. The hole in my life for the last year has now been filled.

Sorry Ross will have to use your pics until I get a chance to take some of my own.

114,000 miles on the clock and a few minor points need sorting. Will start a project thread when we start prepping it.

They say everyone will be back. There like a magnetic force.

Looks a lovely little car. I do like ph1 clios.

It looked cracking last night especially for that price. Bargain.

Phase one. Only way to run. The 3 looked great last night shame too cold n dark for pictures

Looks good Pete, nice base for a track car. Are you going to strip it out completely or won't you be that extreme?

Cheers for the comments guys it is certainly a good basis and will be looking at doing a few mods like coilovers, seats and possibly a cage. Need to do some work on the brakes and an engine mount. Although need to sort out an immobiliser problem at the moment. Got home tonight and it now won't start. Just no response when you turn the key.

I've still got Vibratechnic engine and gearbox mounts if you want to buy them off me.

Will it bump start? I've also still got a coil pack and ht leads if you want to rule them out as a problem.

Looks lovely, great starting point for a project.

non start fault, turn over but won't fire? Tdc sensor?

If you're turning the key and there's no response, not even turning over, I'd try a new battery.

Tdc sensor, immob faults etc will still allow the car to be cranked over.

Any luck Pete? I've a spare tdc sensor in the garage you. can have if it helps? Its used but working

Drove past this the other day Pete and had to take a second look. good on you for buying another one

Even more confused now as I lef it for a day and went out to start it which it did first time. switched it off and then started it again no problems. Locked it up and went back 5 minutes later and unlocked, put the key in. turned it and it bloody started again. This evening went out and tried it again and it started first time. Took it for a run to see if it was related to it getting warm and then cooling down. Got home and had no trouble starting it. Went back 5 minutes later and it worked again. Now that seems to rule out battery and possible immobiliser fault so may be a sensor. Taking it to my tame garage tomorrow to get him to attach it to his reader. That might throw some light on it but then again I've not had any warning lights come on.

Cheers Paul, left it with my mechanic and he's doing a cambelt change for me as well as looking over the car and putting the reader on it. Just got to hope that the Elf meets its reserve as it's funding this project. Need to make sure that it's reliable and forget that its French.

Never really go into this forum section. It always goes - Gen Chat - Gaw'd dam ass thread - moving gif thread - Gen automotive - Clio Projects.

I dunno I post pics up on Facebook of my seats and people suddenly discover what I'm doing. I will start a project thread when the work begins as at the moment I'm accumulating parts. The budget for the whole project has been set at £2150 after the sale of the Elf. Wonder how much over budget it will go?
Although the fun part for me is picking and finding parts, it is going to be a home build as my son has sourced the use of his mate's garage in return for the odd drive at trackdays when he can get to them. Currently trying to sort out seat mounts and waiting for a quote from the guy I bought the seats from. Then the stripping will begin.

if you want a hand with strippage, give me a shout mate ;)

I'll give you a bell Fletch and when you get your Clio sorted we'll do the headlights for you.

It will be like the silver arrows with you, me and Chris out on track lol.

Oh great! Now that's three silver mobile chicanes for me to overtake ;)

Budget?!?! In my experience if you have a budget, double it and add £2k. That is around the real figure ;)

Or try to as you plow the fields again ;)

Good stuff.

I can't wait to get back out on the track :race:

Hello chaps. Which seats have you acquired Pete? Good to see swift progress :) If you need any help let me know and i'll bimble down south to help out where I can.

Be good to get some trackdays in the diary that we can all make. I'd love to do Anglesey, Combe and some of the other bigger tracks, and its always more fun with a few others. Need to have a look at the diaries, get some booked up if you're keen.
