Jim's rejects
Afternoon.
I inherited this problem when i bought the car. originally it was only in 2nd and underload, you'd hear a loud banging coming from the centre console.
Now its happening in 1st, 2nd and third.
Had a look underneath and it would appear that the previous owner has installed new dog bone bushes (they're purple) and so I'm guessing powerflex.
Even so, the banging seems to be from where the manifold meets the cat. The spring bolts are fine (had them off and back on again -what a tw@ t, no room at all, put a new centre mount and rear bracket on, so they're not the issue.
So... I'm 99% sure the exhaust at manifold/cat section is hitting something, which in turn usually means that there is excess vibration from the engine/gearbox?
For example, If I'm cruising in 5th at 30 mph and plant the throttle, there feels far too much movement in the engine/box. Would you safely hazard a guess that I should replace engine mounts all round?
Cheers in advance.
