banging sound when flooring it in 172 cup

  missmy257bhp r5/ got evo6
i have had 2 172 cups now and both have done this is it common think its the gearbox mount 172 cups seem to eat them there not much money but not the point

k-tec do an uprated one is it any good does anyone else have a k-tec one
how easy is it to change the mount

please help

It depends which one you mean. They are all fairly easy to change, loosen the 4 drivers side mount bolts and the bolts on the mount under the battery and pull the engine forward and re-tighten. This may reduce/resolve the problem. Have a look under the car in the middle and see if the rubber on the dogbone mount has perished, this one is easy to change but the car has to be high up/over a pit.

Hi guys, I have a Phase 2 172 sport. This happens when i floor it in most gears but sounds worst in the wet as per today. It sounds like the engine is banging off the engine bay, is this what we are talking about? Can i follow the same resolve as in this link Gaz?
Cheers,
Chris

sounds like it, give it a go mate, cant be any worse can it?! :) The noise will seem to come from the passenger footwell area?

Well to be quite honest i couldnt isolate the noise, its just there. It just sounds like the top of the engine is banging off the bulk maybe?
Ive just looked on KTEC but cant find the 'Dog Mount' thing you mentioned? Can you give me a link at all please? Ive found some lower engine mounts which are the twisted ones???

tbh i'd try adjusting the engine and mount first and take it from there. :) Its the twisted mount you mention. Just try the above first though.

Hi Gaz, Sorry to be a pain but i really want to get this sorted and im confused with all of the different things ive read about!.
What should i do first? try adjusting the mounts? Can you explain if i can do this myself and where the bolts are located etc... Basically an idiots brief guide!
Appreciate it Gaz.

you mean this?
quote: and then slacken off the 4 bolts on the left hand engine mount (the one near the oil cap lol) pull the engine forward with the help of a bar/mate then re tigthen the bolts. Job done, mine never does this now, no mater how much right foot is given in 1st

The bolts shown here with yellow on them, loosen them, there is also a mount under your battery which is similar, (remove the battery by unding the bolt holding the plate down on the left of the battery)loosen these bolts too (by loosen not take off just do them up about half a cm. Get someone to pull the engine/mounts as far forward to the front of the car as they can and then re-tighten all the bolts to 60NM iirc. (ignore the arrow).

Cheers for this, is this at the front of the car looking at it from the front. So the mounts are front left under the battery and on the oposite side>?

What else could be the problem? Ive not loosened these yet but ive looked at them and they dont look much like they will give any slack??
I have had a look down the back of the engine and cant see anywhere where the engine could be banging off the bulk head..
What is the noise? Im presuming i have the same problem as everyone? I had this in my Silver 172 a few year ago but for some reason this seams worse. How can you tell if the mounts are fecked?

The only fix is what has been said above, if changing the position of the engine mount doesnt work you need to change the dog bone. This is what i did, bought an uprated one and it hasnt knocked since :D

You would think that Renault would have road tested and realised this was a fault and uprated the stock one... dick heads. Now they are going to cost me more money!.
