Bassy Comps

i love bass and good sounding stereos, so i ordered Alpine 9815rb but cannot justify fitting a sub in my cup. Who knows which are the best comps for bass. Looking to replace front mid and tweeter and rear speakers. What should i look for?

Also i gather amping the speakers would help..what else do u guys rate?

No Budget, but nothing silly!

Cheers.

tbh 13cms components are never going to produce decent bass. You could maybe mod the door pods and fit some 17s, you can get some adequate bass of them.

6x9s (no shock horror!!!) give you quite a nice bit of bass, they get quite a sl*gging. I personally thought my stereo sounded quite good with 6x9s and fronts, however once I fitted my sub they sounded w*nk!

cant go wrong with mb quart!

just my two pennies:)

Cheers

People keep mentioning MB Quart speakers. looking into them now.

Has anyone tried to mod the rear speakers, say they fit 5 now, maybe to fit 2x6 subs?? Just an idea. Do you think it would work?

And Amps...who makes the best amps...plz?

Yeah i got mb quarts 6x9s in the parcel shelf of my car. They sound good enough for me, and the bass is pretty good. Oh and i have a set of components in the front.

kinda agree with john and the others here

get a set of audioscape door pods and get 17cm components,

rockfords are usually quite bassy, get yourself a 4 channel amp and run the components from the front 2 channels,

then get yourself a set of genesis 6x9 subs, these are supposed to be the dogz bol.lox

should sound pretty good, although you will need a 4 channel that puts out around 4x100 watts rms.

HTH

other than that, look at focal 5" subs or DD 6.5" subs, maybe a couple of those in the boot would suffice, wouldnt take up much room or be too heavy

IMO - you could get some 6" comps for the front that would give you some mid bass,

6*9s are never going to give you bass, just mid bass, if you get a really good pair, they will be good, as lokng as you work a little on sound staging.

the genny 6*9s adam mentioned are supposed to a really good ALTERNATIVE to a sub, not a replacement tho. if you want bass, a sub is really the only way to go, but the gennys are the next bet thing, will be better if you build enclosures for them tho.

A decent 4 channel amp will do, 2 channels for the front, then IIRC you can get 8 ohm genny 6*9s then bridge the other 2 channels and run the 6*9s paralel(sp)

or you could put 2 8" subs or even the 6.5/5" subs adams talking about in enclosures under the front seats.

just my 2p

yes, i looked into this myself, would take a lot of work, and even more sound deadening, but to have all that mid coming from the rear of the car would sound awesome (i dont like low bass)

there is plenty of room in there for the fibreglass enclosure required for the subs, and the aperture is easily big enough to modify and fit the 6"ers in

Ive practically decided now..as to what set-up im going for...

Amps:
Ive had a little experience with amps in my life. One was an old pink thing which was crap. Given to me by an ex-max bod. Instead of cleaning the sound it filthed it up. Eventually started to smoke in the boot of me car, so had to go. Replaced with a rockford 120.2 amp(230RMS). I swore by this amp, it really was awesome. But its all i know. Can anyone enlighten me with amps and also help he shorten my short/long list. Want to get it all ordered today.

Cheers

what budget are you looking at for the amps??

i would go with the MB Quart for fronts, JL subs for rear, that is if you like a lot of work, if not, disconnect the OE speakers and spend the extra on your fronts, rear fill IMHO is not a good thing

i wasnt going to say, but ah well

rockford is over rated, over priced and very poor quality compared to most on the market

sorry, had to be said

Excellent...in the way that i thought Rockford was good, but can be beaten by far for same money...

Where can i source prices for these hifonics amps?

Would it be better to get 2x 2 channel?
or
1x 4 channel

BTW im going for the difficult option...i like a lot of work. Work it for the end result.

Cheers for all the help.

So how are you affording this Dust?

I thought you were always skint? Plus you still need to give me the money for Championship Manager if you are going to keep it!

hows the new car coming on seatboy?

Thought it was going to be a Integra? Or a Lotus?

BTW ill post the game round tonight, and wouldnt you like to know how i will afford this.

dont use rockford? what are you on about!!

ok, i agree with you about the newer stuff, slightly overated, but still not bad,

the older stuff is amazing! the 120.2 that dust mentioned is a lovely amp,

anything in the older series, such as 120.2 or the a series (400a4) are very good IMO.

i used to have an 800a4, one of the best amps ive owned, had shed loads of power and had pretty good SQ to boot. was rated at 4x100 rms but pushed more like 4x115-120 rms.

i dont know anyone that has used older rockford stuff and been dissapointed.
