The alarm arming beeps happen if you try and set the alarm to soon, leave about 10-15 seconds after closing the door and no beeps, either way it should be armed.
If the battery voltage drops too low - it's likely the alarm will go off.
New long life battery (Bosh S5 (£60)) would be a very good choice, or a solar trickle charger if the car is stood for long periods outside.
