Looks ace, had a long look at it at FCS and work looks top notch :D I was too scared to get too close to them alloys :p

Hello there, were back with a small update.
Thank you for all the comments, good and bad, nice to hear what everyone thinks.
Right, updates on the car are, I'm still fighting the good battle with the dice valve caps, I've now replaced 5 of them!!!! Glad they are fairly cheap.
As well as that we've begun on the interior, only small update at the moment but its looking a lot better.
Ever since replacing the roof skin I've not had a headlining or radio areial in the car.
So last weekend I went the A5 salvage (local citroen breakers) to get a headlining (£10 if I removed it myself, result) and while I was there I managed to get an interior light with a map light, infa-red pick up and no sunroof handle (also result).
Then this weekend while the headlining was still out we fitted a window mount aerial.

Next, I've always wanted a black headlining in my car so during the week I got myself some suede and some spray glue.
We set about trimming it and fitting it to the car! We even drafted in my mum to help iron it and fit it!

We also painted the interior light to match the headlining

I think it looks awesome and is a vast improvement, if a little dark inside the car.
The pillar trims wil be done soon, but got some deciding to do on other matters before commiting time and money to those
Hope you like

This may be a huge post so I'll apologize in advance, I'll try to be breif with some of this, most of it was a huge amount of very difficult work, but the way its written may make it look quick and easy but trust us lol...
Since the last update we have been very busy, and I was hoping to keep everything quiet and have a big reveal at FCS, but it is looking less and less likely the car will be ready in time so I have decided to update my thread.
Right, the problem we were having with my car is it looks amazing, but just under the skin it was still a scruffy '98 VTS so we decided we wanted to address the engine bay.
This is what we had to begin with

06022010297.jpg

Not pretty as you can see, but using my christmas money I decided to bit tghe bullet and buy something a little different with a custom manifold

14012010272-1.jpg

So then with the seed of the idea of a smoothed engine bay planted in our heads we decided to start stripping the old engine bay and did some test fittings

06022010299.jpg

06022010302.jpg

And just kept stripping

09022010306.jpg

18022010325.jpg

We decided we weren't going to do any half measures with this, so we purchased this...

10022010307.jpg

With plans to remove the brakes, abs, most engine running components, we then needed to start the process of removing the front fuse and relay box, so we just continued to strip the car

18022010323.jpg

We got the dash with loom, and body loom home and using a haynes manuel and a multimeter we attacked the dash loom to incorperate an Omex 200, half an engine loom and a new fuse and relay box.

18022010327.jpg

19022010329.jpg

20022010331.jpg

We found a rather neat place to mount the Omex so you can't see it , but when you remove the dash fuse box cover you can access the serial port for mapping

Also ran the engine loom through the dash loom into aneptune through panel connector that would go onto our new engine loom when we make it

25022010338.jpg

Next thing to do was to address the pedal box, so eventhough it is listed for a Saxo, it in no way well fit without huge modifications. So we set about it.

06032010355.jpg

06032010356.jpg

Put the looms back in the car

06032010358.jpg

06032010357.jpg

Now when running bike carbs you need to hugely lower the fuel pressure as fuel injection runs 3.5 bar and a return, but the carbs run 3 psi and no fuel return. Most people seem to run fuel pressure regulators, but I think they are a bit big and unsightly for our engine bay so we decided to entirely repipe the car front to rear, remove the original pump from the sender unit and fit a Yamaha R1 interupter fuel pump inline in the car.

06032010352.jpg

27022010343.jpg

Also with the master cylinders now in the car, the bias adjustment now on the pedal box rather than on the rear axle and also having to run some kind of brake light switch we had to entirely re brake pipe the entire car, hiding them as we went

As I said earlier this is only a very breif overview, this was all a HUGE amount of work.

With all the basics in an working in theory we decided to set about some more wiring, having seen how the hadlights are wired up we decided to set about hiding the wiring for the headlights.
To do this we ran the wiring the internal to the headlight, and out to a plug which would go into our new modified engine bay loom

20032010395.jpg

20032010398.jpg

20032010399.jpg

So now with everything in an potentially working we set about building up and tidying up everything

20032010403-1.jpg

20032010404-1.jpg

Now it was time to build our own engine loom, with only the bare minimum

24032010405.jpg

25032010407.jpg

Unfortunately this is where I broke my phone and was thusly unable to take any pics or vids for possibly the most exciting part so far.
We got an Oddessy battery which is relocated under the drivers seat, and new with everything in and conntected we managed to load a map onto the Omex (eventually). We tested everything and surprisingly, everything works!!
Now with everything in place we managed to get it to FIRE UP AND RUN!!!!
This was with the car looking similar to how it does in this picture

18022010325.jpg

  Some of a Clio 1.8 16v
This was only for a short period though as, now with everything in and working it was time to strip it and tidy up and smooth everything to make the car aproper show stopper
Whilst we were doing this I also set about making my wheels better, I had a slight moment with a kurb and a front wheel, so I got the rims off, sold them and replaced the 2" front rims with 2.5" making my wheels 8.5" front and 9" rear.

With the engine and everything out we set about smoothing the engine bay, we didn't want to completely smooth every undulation in every panel, just every hole and bracket etc

IMG_0004.jpg

IMG_0005.jpg

IMG_0006.jpg

Whilst we were doing this we also decided to do the engine build.
For one reason and another we went from a VTS lump with ph3 cams and bike carbs to a full JP4 conversion, running wossner high comp piston, pec forged rods, arp bolts, gas flowed head, Newman Ph 4 cams, race big end and bottom end bearings and the R1 carbs.

This is as far as we've got with the engine, but on saturday the bay has finally been painted after loads and loads of prep to make the paint finish perfect!

  Whichever has fuel
IS there nothing you two can't do???

Awesome work, good to have you back! :D

So this is the BoggBorthers manifold Danny modified then?

Build is looking epic lads, cant wait to see more. Mind if I pick your brains about the carbs?

  Some of a Clio 1.8 16v
Yeah its a bogg brothers manifold, it had to be modified as it was originally for the Saxo VTS engine (TU5J4) but once purchased we ended up going for a later C2 VTS engine (TU5JP4) so it didn't qhite fit and needed modifying a bit.
As for the bike carbs, as Danny said, we only went for bike carbs to keep wiring to a minimum, we know all about throttle bodes (see our Clio project) and could have easily put it on them, but I personall don't think they look all that good on Saxos.
Feel free to PM us about the bike carbs and I'll try to help you out if you need?
Also Cheers everyone for all the nice comments.

Cheers Moo

Cant fault the skill and effort gone into this, just one slight thing playing on me though, are you not bothered about the orange peel on the satin black? especially as your engine bay looks nicer than the outside of the car? (except the vinyl roof, that is the nuts) Im not disliking the colour, just the finish of the black from the photos.

I think you may be reading the wrong thread for you. You've missed the point by a long way

Did you not think about cutting the bulkhead/scuttle out before painting it?? Or would it expose the wiper motor etc too much for the way you're going with the build?

We're back!
Quite an interesting update here.
We haven't done a lot to the car for a couple of weeks now as we have been waiting on parts.
But then on Friday everything finally arrived.
Lightened and balanced crank and flywheel.
Flywheel is lighened by 1.7Kg and Crankshaft lightened by 3.7Kg making quite a saving on the bottom end overall.

IMG_0193.jpg

IMG_0195.jpg

IMG_0194.jpg

IMG_0197.jpg

The weight saving is really apparent when you pick these parts up.
So I set about building up the engine, although I didn't get too far as it was only after work and I kept getting hassled by my mate and his car!

IMG_0199.jpg

IMG_0201.jpg

IMG_0203.jpg

IMG_0204.jpg

So with the engine finally coming together we realized that we had been slacking with the rest of the car, so today we set about building the car back up ready to recieve the engine.

IMG_0205.jpg

IMG_0206.jpg

IMG_0208.jpg

We also set about making a bracket to hold the new fuse and relay box for behind the dash and mounting it.

IMG_0210.jpg

IMG_0213.jpg

IMG_0214.jpg

And this is how the car looked by the end of today
