  07 Fiesta ST
so, wondered if you guys could share someof your infinate wisdom on all things clio sport ness.

my mate from work is going to work abroad and he has offered me his clio before he sells in on give us your car we'll give you some $$$ . com.

it is...

53 reg clio 172 cup in blue

44k miles

no tax / no mot due to needin new tyres.

he was asking £3400

is this a good price you reckon??

he says it just had a new clutch and new sensor of some sort

asked about the cam belt and that hasnt been changed but he said it didnt need changing for ages. I thought as the car is approx 5 years old it would need changing around about now even tho it is low milage,

anyway, cheers for you time anyone who can help much appriciated !

well ive had a quick look on here and i cant see any that cheap unless i missed summat !

his is standard never modded. ive got a fiesta st at the moment but might sell it as im going travelling for 4 months and it would free up some dollar but i would still have some wheels when i get back and if it is a good price... although im not sure it is now...

ever driven an st? any comparison comments? i know the clio should be quicker...

I've never driven one, only been driven in one by a mate so I cannot honestly say the difference myself

however I would say the clio would have the edge especially on the straights

the st is probably cheaper to maintain long term though

doubt or didn't seem to be to me as much fun as the clio.. I have a normal 172, not a cup, undoubtably the cup is more fun / hardcore.. I stripped the rear seats and etc from mine to give it a more raw feel and it is incredible fun. so easy to throw about and carry lots of speed thru corners, etc.

you can safely say there is not a chance he would get away from me in his st but it is largely down to the driver and I've also read that they respond well to mods, whereas the 172 is a little more expensive to 'tune'

just my 2p

I'm sure someone here has driven / owned one of each so will be able to shed more light :)

finally my opinion also the 172 is a much much better looking car

I've driven an ST and own a Cup. Clio is noticably quicker and much more fun to drive.

How long has he owned the car? New clutch at 44k? Seems a little soon and might give you an insight into how the car has been driven.

2 good tyres and belts changed will cost you about 500 yeh but even more if it has CC (being a 53plate it could have).

Seems a decent price tbh although I'd offer him 3k maybe and see what he says.

i know he bought the car new - i reckon he has enjoyed the 'beans' a fair bit to be fair.

might be worth a bash but its well short notice he has only said it tonight and he wants to know by 4pm tomorrow !!

Just for a bit of info, the ST has a seriously restrictive airflow section (aparently to help lower the insurance group as standard) so fitting an induction kit and an aftermarket flexy pipe can easily give an extra 10-15 brake.

it gets a bit quicker then, i find it lots of fun around the corners and much better build quality than my old DCI 80 clio (although that sipped derv like my gran sips sherry at xmas haha) unlike the ST :(

Cheers for the input peeps - any more is welcome, I still have some time to gather some knowledgeable info to throw him off his guard in a bartering session...

I'd wait a few weeks until you see something come up on here for around the 3k mark, it happens every other day you see one, full service history at specialists like ktec, full ktec exhausts (or other 3rd party ,meaning less cost as the std ones fall off around 50k mark and it's pants down time if you want a new std system (see other thread in the forum about this), these also almost always have belts done, look mint, you can view the history of the owner on this forum, mot tax the lot

there are some real bargains to be had

as above, if you have a/c / cc this will cost you 500+ just for the belts and over a oner for the tyres, the belts by the way should have been done 8k ago on that too

clutch going so early may be a sign of abuse too as davm said

  07 Fiesta ST
how come you reckon the belts should have been done 8k ago?

ali said 72k or 5 yrs

o you mean it works out to 8k a year on the age, so should have been done that long ago as the car is now 6yrs old?

The aux belt should have been changed at 36k. Usually both the cam and aux are done at the same time though to save some dosh.

Seems a decent price but as said numerous times factor in a full belts change at the cheapest price of £350+ and 2 new tyres. Certainly isn't a bad price if it's in good condition. Some people have slammed the prices on here at the minute but second hand sale prices are actually on the increase contrary to populat CS belief.
