Bendix or Girling Grrrr!

  Clio 197

Cool... ok.

What do I look out for?

The words "bendix" "girling"... on the calipers / pads ?

What about the rear drums?

Hehe... I have no idea what Im doing!

Should be on the calipers somewhere. I think theres another way of tellin by how many bolts or something but cant remember what it is soz.

Could always take it to Nationals wholl do you a free brake test and then u can ask them what all the parts are...maybe :)

you will be able to see on the front of the caliper (mine said lucas which i guess is girling)

  Mk2 Ph1 1.2 8v

the girlings will say lucas on the calipers... its that simple really.

Doesnt mean the whole brake system is lucas though. I have lucas fronts, with bosch rears

1.2 will be Bendix (my 1.2 was anyway) - solid discs.

Lucas Girling has vented discs. 16v/Williams is Girling for example.

Many thanks for all of the advice chappos...

Both the front and rear were bendix in the end.

I fitted a new set of pads and brembo discs to the front... (Ive got shoes for the rear, but the handbrake works beautifully, so I wont bother with them for now).

The front drivers side caliper is sticking slightly, but the cars worth less than what I paid for the parts today... so I aint changing it!

The discs/pads were smoking after my initial run-in session, but theyve started to bed-in nicely, and bite quite well.

Pheeww... A curry well deserved!

Yea, Mk2 Clio 1.2s had Vented Discs - which have Girling calipers.

Mk1 1.2s had solid discs.. so had the Bendix calipers.

Apparently...

One can have both setups (bendix & girling) on the front and rear, of the same car, as standard!

Lol... I said 96 N 1.2 to the chap and he said "which engine... 1149 pr 11**"

There were so many variants...

Halfords didnt have the part number for the rear drums on their puter.

Howabouts renault use the KISS principle?

Keep It Simple Silly.

my mk2 ph1 has girling on the front, and bosch rear drums on a car that supposedly didnt have bosch rear drums until 3 months after i got my car... go figure.

To throw a spanner in the works, my fronts are solid discs on girling calipers. So its not automatically bendix calipers if you have solid discs.

Renaults brake systems seem to vary alot! Im betting they didnt put too much thought into it...
