JJ172 and BenR: Douglas, the guy with the modified Pearl Black 172, sold it a few weeks ago to his pals uncle in Aberdeen and he has told the guy about this website, so one of these days he might appear here. I will keep reminding Douglas, as then we can all hear first hand about this very sporty 172.
The work he had done on the 172 cost about £3000 and it was something to do with fitting throttle bodies and cams and it was re-mapped and chipped to produce the extra power and set up on the rolling road. Apparently the power output on the rolling road was 270bhp at the front wheels and Douglas has the print out from that session.
He bought another black Clio with about 6,000 miles on the clock, which he is now modifying, I have seen a picture of it and it has Momo Arrows and a nice exhaust which pokes out through the rear valance, because he drilled a hole in it and I think it looks great.
He also has several rally cars and a couple of motorbikes and he used the money from the sale of the 172 to help fund another. He has also got a 1987 3-door Ford Sierra Cosworth, chipped to 380bhp, fitted with green injectors, big exhaust system and full roll cage, which he rallies in his Lanarkshire Car Club.
Ian, the guy who did the work on Douglass 172 used to have a bright yellow 205, the one with the factory sport colours up the side, and he put a 2 litre engine from a M16 in it and a rear axle with discs from a scrap 1.9 GTi, which he said was great fun.
The last time I heard from Douglas, he was about to fit camshafts on a Corsa GSi which is fitted with a 2-litre twin cam, ex-Vectra engine which will be putting out 200bhp.
I think he is a good bloke to know!
