Bent one of my wheels - advice needed

  E30 318iS x2
Was up over the top of Salisbury plain and it a pot hole which my wheel didn't agree with :(

As shown bellow it has bent in abit of the inside of the wheel and obviously the tyre needs replacing as it has a huge bulge. What also sucks is the guy who helped me change the wheel then proceeded to drop it on its front on the road .

Main priority is to get the actual wheel sorted and worry about cosmetics
later but how much you recon it would cost to sort it?

Fooked me thinks !

Is it really that bad?

I am honestly asking because IMO I have seen million times worse be fixed and it looks like it needs to be heated and pursausded (SP) back?

take a soft face hammer to it and see if it will ease back, but that is a hell of a bend so you may be better with a new wheel. how big was the pothole?

Taking it to an engineering place by me they clever chappies so they're going to look at is for me, looks bloody tiny to me tbh lol.

Not sure was a while before I realised.

Get a new wheel mate.

Any bending back into shape would make it weaker, do you really want weak wheels for the sake of a few hundred quid?

surely a wheel is only 120 for a new one, and it wud coz u about 50-70 to replace for the extra money and your safety get a new rim:approve:

I have found one on ebay so wish me luck :)

I haven't asked renault but a set of those is £600inc VAT so closer enough to 150 maybe? Will see though.

I had the same problem with one of mine last week, my regular mechanic gave it a smack with a hammer and it did get rid of it however it put a crack in the rim. He got it welded up for me though and a special compound put in the crack to set it properly. Looks fine now.

wheels from renault are stupidly expensive yeah but its worth it...having a wheel that is weakend is just asking for something to go wrong..and the scrapes on the front is just adding insult to injury!!
unlucky mate i feel for you, maybe a nice forceful letter to the local roads dept would fill that pothole and stop others having the same problem. You could try getting money off them for it but its a long shot methinks.

It was a track leading on the top of a hill so I have no case what so ever in that sense, will have to look around for a new one.

What are they criminaly charging for one wheel now then?

properly unlucky pal...

about 2 month ago i drove up a kerb doing about 60 (dont ask) and bent my wheel like urs... almost exactly the same...that bad that air was coming out and i couldn't drive on it.... anyway when i took it to garage this beefy bloke got a rubber malet on it and bent it straight again... he only charged my a fiver for the trouble.

my advice would be take it to a non mainstream wheel/tyre place, see if they can straighten it you

well is something ridiculous like a 180 a wheel...without a tyre i think.
wanted to get those on mine last year but totally put off by the price. may have changed now though?

I'm with pepperami on this one. I personally would NEVER repair an alloy wheel. The damage has stressed the material and doing anything to put it back into it's original shape is going to stress and weaken it even more. Do you really fancy increasing the chance of the wheel failing completely while in use or a crack apearing and causing the tyre to deflate rapidly. It's simply not worth it IMO.

Its £132 inc VAT for one wheel! You b******s had me thinking it would be close to £200 :rasp:

One of them is being ordered up should have it soon :) Saves having to sort the frontage out to.

Ok here's the shizle... If Rich was on Salisbury Plain proper, he will not be able to claim from anyone due to it being an MOD training area and therefore not maintained as a public highway would be. Rich does know this as do all of us that live around the edge of it. If you have any doubts about this though Rich you mate want to speak to Landmark. They are the company who are responsible for manning the vadets and perimter of the plain.
My question is however... Why were you up there in the first place? The only poeple that go up there are normally doggers! We've caught a few of them up there when we've been on exercise. Funny as f**k when some bird's getting the rutting of her life and looks up to see a bunch of armed and cam'd up guys looking in laughing thier bollox off before setting off a shamuly! LMAO!

included tyre it would be nearer to it lol

just giving you a price so that youd get a pleasant surprise!:rasp:

I still cant get over all the morons who'd advise belting the damage out or getting some bunch of pikeys to repair it. New wheel is the only option IMO.

+1 Every if it was repairable, they're never 100% right again.

I think perhaps some of the muppets on here wouldnt be so quick to suggest repairs or bodging if they'd seen the results of an alloy wheel failing at speed. It's not pretty and it's potentially fatal.

Picked up the new wheel today :) Must say local Stealer got it in very fast for me.

Waiting on a tyre now, the site I bought it from are quoting two weeks postage now
