Best cheap laptop?

I've been tasked with finding a cheap laptop for my Aunt, she's retired so doesn't have a load of money so cheaper the better.

The Lenovo has the option of a 3 year warranty for £37 which seems cheap too.

Anything else I should consider?

Lenovo definitely have warranty as they have a fair few failures!!!

Dell Outlet is also a good one as some of the kit there is cancelled orders or where the kit has a scratch on the case so is knocked down because of that.

If you go to Dell Outlet...have a look around 15:00 each day as that is when they update their stock list.

Mike...DEFO get extended warranty if you go down the Lenovo route as they are built to a budget and their parts reliability is not the best in my opinion.

The dell outlet had nothing much on when I looked, I need something that has stock all the time really, so a proper store.

I always thought Lenovo was good but you're obviously wrong! Which brands tend to be best? Sony? HP?

I think she would be best with a proper laptop tbh, but I'll suggest an iPad since the 2's can be had cheap now.

We signed a contract to use Lenovo 3 years ago...some pieces of kit have been in and repaired several times...a few pcs died with various faults/issues within 6 weeks and one school bought 12 laptops and 8 of them had a motherboard change...they are good for the price, just make sure you get extended warranty. (and I'm not normally a fan of extended warranties!)

Looks alright with it having i3 processor. I've not used one...but for the price they look good.

Lenovo bought out IBM hardware and have now acquired NEC (as well as other smaller suppliers) and are now supposedly the 2nd largest pc supplier in the world. This is why they are so prominent compared to say 5 years ago.

Thats a pretty decent spec for the money! I would be looking at that one out of all the ones listed so far.

Mother and Father have the higher spec version of that, it has pretty poor build quality and flexes quite alot when held from the corner, I also cant get on with the keyboard with number pad.

use the normal Dell ordering website to order one then. The Inspiron 1545 is a perfect general use laptop for £349

We use Thinkpads in the majority. R400, R61, L410, SL500, L420, W510 (Although the W range seem bomb proof...but they should with what they cost per unit).

I'd like at least a couple of gig RAM, a decent-ish HDD, maybe wifi, and ideally need a decent soundcard with microphone input.

I just want to be able to process photos fairly quickly, surf the 'net with multiple windows open at a time, and also attempt to sort out the accoustics in my living room with REW or similar...


I have too much other stuff to think about and do at the moment to spend time getting all the specs etc on processors and other stuff into my head! lol
