Best for applying by hand...

  Megane DCi 147bhp/350nwm
As i can't justify spending £100++ on buying a PC i'm going to stick to doing it the hard way.

What can you suggest are the best for...

Initial wash

Scratch & Swirl removal

Polish

Seal

Please provide links to online store for them so i can purchase them :)

I've never bothered EVER with claying or anything - always wash, dry then slap some Super Resin on it :p

I have 2 pearl black cars ... teach me the ways

If you have black, you will NEVER de swirl it by hand unfortunately. I recently purchased a Black gold 182. the swirling was/is shocking in direct sun. I like you also believed you could do it by hand...... wrong lol. I tried everything. The problem is you can't work the product in fast enough to break it down by hand. Here is my 182. On the right side of the door is the best finish i got by hand  . That was using Auto Glym and megs products for around a month lol, couple of times a week!!!. Left hand side is me messing around with a PC for ten mins lol.

This week the car is getting a once over with my PC. All i can suggest is, if you dont want to buy one, get someone to do it for you. You can then maintain it by hand.

2 black cars to do swirl removal - that is the justification to buy a PC if I ever saw one. As above you will be lucky to much succesful swirl removal without a shed load of elbow grease and then results will probably still leave you not 100% happy.

Working By hand though.

Wash: Duragloss Wash or Sonax Gloss shampoo - or Megs Hyperwash or Shampoo plus if you like to buy in bulk
Swirl Removal: Meguiars Scratch X and a folded terry towel for even bit and pressure.
Polish: AG Super Resin
Seal: AG Extra Gloss
Wax: Chemical Guys 50/50 or Swissvax Onyx depending on budget.

The door pic to the right had been Megs scratch x SRP and EGP..... and still you can see the defects, lots of blood sweat and (nearly) tears lol. I had scratch x'd the door twice before hand, working untill the product pretty much vanished. Still looked shite lol! I was sooooo happy when testing the PC, i know it'll come right in the end :)

its is amazing what the pc can do :)

you can do a days detail and still feel fresh after using the pc compared to feeling knackered with 2 tennis elbows after giving it a good going over by hand lol

I did areas of mine 10-12 times with Scratch X and they looked OK - gave up and got the PC.

I've prety much purchased all of these products to do it by hand... can they still be used with a PC or is it pointless? Is scratch x mainly for hand use?

Some use Scratch X by machine but when there are proper polishes designed for machine use you may aswell use them IMO. You could use it to get you through until you get some.

$200 :( then i have to by this transformer gismo and the pads and the polish!

  106 GTi
Which is £99 minus the discount the 182_Blue can get with his code, will be here in 3 odd days even from the sates, plus a transformer and some polish you will be all up and going for under 200 quid, do a few cars for mates etc and it will pay for itself and your two Black cars will be sorted for nothing apart from saving you some real elbow pain!

  RB 182
Sounds like I will be doing that :) There were a few on ebay but they seem to be all sold too. One bloke is offering £200 for the kit which is mucho gayness!!

Rich, can I use AG Super Resin and AG Extra Gloss with the PC? I'm not too bothered about the scratch x, was just concerned that all of the products I bought were not of any use...

  106 GTi
The SRP works well by PC on a polishing or finishing pad. The EGP I still apply by hand.

Not sure what the US one works out at the moment, worth working it out with the discount codes etc.

That'll be my mini project for the night. May even give them a call come to think of it :) Those yank reception ladies can never understand my half west midlands accent lol.

However no transformer, the cheapest transformer I found was £38 and that was after really hunting round, so that adds a little bit on, i'd say thats not too bad deal
