Best way to remove spyware/malware etc.

My mates asked me to 'make his computer fast again'

As you can tell hes not the most technical minded and judging from what I know of him, he'll have it filled with spyware, viruses etc.

Whats the best freeware to remove the lot?

Save the stuff you want on a memory stick or discs. Then do a system restore.

Buy a Mac?

Download Malwarebytes, Avast and CCleaner (all freeware). Install and update to latest version and defs. Then run full deep scans with each in safe mode and remove everything it finds. Then rerun again in normal boot. Then when you're done get Defraggler (also freeware), install and run that. Done.

Best way, format and start fresh. Not the easiest/quickest (although can be quicker than sorting existing stuff out sometimes) but the best tbh.

As Symon said, good info. I use Smart Defrag instead of Defraggler. These will speed up a PC to no end.
