Best way to remove the crap left behind a badge?

Just got a new 197 style Renault Sport badge (Thanks Tom @ Wests Renault!).

I removed the old badge with a credit card and some APC, however I can still see the marks left behind - I've removed all of the residue and have used a bit of swirl remover, I THINK it's slowly coming off but not too sure ... any other good techniques that I could try?

Going to attempt to remove a load of swirls tomorrow with the DA polisher so will go around the area with the smaller pad.
