BHP at the wheels

Whats A normal bhp figure for a 182 At the wheels?. Ive bought one,today actually, its been dyno'd at just over 172bhp at the wheels I think that pretty good. Ive read places that bhp loss can be anything from 15%+ ,

Is this the norm for 182's or does anyone think this one may be chipped?, Most of its history is from a place called rentech ltd. got a couple of minor mods like a milltek zorst and a pannel in it,just seems alot to me...Not that im complaining lol

I would strongly suspect the figure of 172 you have is calculated at the flywheel.

Oh and power atw, I seem to recall 135-145 being the norm.

normally expect 25-30bhp difference between flywheel and wheels figures on these. There's a few variables though, depends on the type of rollers, tyre pressures and even your gearbox oil condition and temperature

Mine has had a stage one rstunner re-map and web I had it on the rolling road it ran 173bhp other standard clio's on the day ran 140-165bhp but like said above all rolling roads are different!!

You got a great bhp figure Cerrone, the norm is circa 162-175bhp ATF dependant on rollers.

The ones that ran low figures at our RRday had problems and went bang if i recall...:quiet:

If you put it on a dyno dynamics rollers it will default to around 15% power loss assumed for a fwd car.

So your figure at the flywheel would be over 200bhp

So basically, you've either misunderstood the figure, or the figure is just wrong.

What dyno did you use mate? Unfortunately 99% of dyno's will give different readings - as Danny said above everything from the type/make of the rollers, ambient temperature, tyre make and pressure, how the car is strapped down, what gear is used - there are so many different things that can give a false reading.

As an average, your car with breathing modifications will be somewhere around 145-150bhp @ the wheels, which would be somewhere around 175-180bhp at the flywheel.

172's and 182's get their name from PS, not BHP, and although the difference bwtween PS and BHP is very little, Renault was a little kind with power figures - most 172's will give about 160-165 bhp, and 182's around 170-175bhp.

There are the occasional 'freak' engines that will make circa 10bhp more than others, but these are few and far between.

If yours is chipped, depending on the chip it may gain you a few bhp, but I would say unless it has more modifications that you are unaware about (ie uprated camshafts) then I would say the dyno used was probably being a bit optimistic.

Rentech are a well respected specialist

Mine is giving 167.1 bhp at the flywheel and 154 lbs ft torque. Thats a ph1 172 with Scorpion cat back exhaust and OE airbox with green cotton air filter element running on Shell V Power. It's done 124,000 miles as well so pretty good figures. That was at RS tuning 2 weeks ago.

Thanks muchly for the info mate.If you look above your post my print out is just the same,Like the font and general style.I'll have a look at it tomorrow. I'll try and scan it in. I'm pretty sure I only have the at the wheels print out.

Yeah was my mistake I just had a glance at the read out when I was about to buy it. I'd be happy with it as is. I've had a 1.8 16v in the past and that was pretty much standard and I loved that. Are their any sections on here about the older generation clios, like projects I've had a browse and seems to be the the 172/182 and alike.

Jkm rollers are a decent setup, am genuinely amazed if that is where the figure is from, unless there was a temp probe error on the day or something.
Can someone post the graph up? Might answer a lot of questions if we can see all the readings.
