Big brake kits - are they any good

  Skoda Fabia vRS

basically im looking to uprate my brakes on the valver, now i dont do track days mainly because i cant afford em, but brakes is somethin were id rather spend that bit extra if i can

what im wondering, the big brake kits you can get from K-Tec etc, are they any good, are they much of an improvement on uprated normal size stuff

i can get brembo max discs for about £70 for the pair, fast road pads will be about £30ish

the big brake kits are about £250 IIRC, but are they that much better for an extra £150 ?

You can never have too much stopping power, mind you the standard valver brakes are very good for road use imho

yeah i think the caliper is the limiter on te valver, to get extra stopping power you need to upgrade these

Im upgrading to the Yozzasport kit (brembo max discs, pagid blue pads and goodridge hoses) pretty soon and that is supposed to be particularly good for the money.

Ill let you know.

But again that is just uprated pads and lines.....discs do feck all in my opinion.

For the £250 price bracket i woudl go for Marks 4 pots, run them on std williams discs

I had the K-tec 285mm kit on my old megane (bigger car but same calipers as clio valver) - made a massive difference IMO and looked great.

In your case id say just spend a little extra and get the 4-pot as theyre not that much more and youre not going benefit from the better looks with turbines on.

Then again, isnt the raiderman selling a k-tec kit s/h cheaply...id buy it in that case...

I woudl say it was the pads...imo

4 pots are overkill for the road unless your turning it into your own rally circuit, they can lock up whenver you want although they are worth ever penny on the road.
The big brake kits are better than stock hough much more power. How can I tell well my dcis got stock vlver brakes unworn etc and the Williams had ktec big brake kit

There a waste of money - im running 330 bhp and still have standard 172 brakes with rear drums. The car stops extremely aggresively and i do track days and quarter miling. If you dont track i wouldnt bother mate

yea thats what im thinkin, i dont exactly rag my car around, i dont think i would make use of them

just upgrade to a nice set of Yozza sport brake hoses and a good set of pads - leave the standard calipers on or perhaps fit new standard ones. That will probably make a difference on an old car

yea that was another idea, however that will cost about £250, which is gettin closer to Marks Wilwood kit prices, though still £100 off i guess

172 calipers are massively bigger than the Williams/16v ones and take much larger pads. If you intend to do trackdays and your hard on your brakes, I dont care what combination of pad/fluid/disc you use on the standard Willy/16v caliper, they still wont perform as well as a 4pot set-up.

thats very true but they cost a lot less, and for me, i dont think i can justify the cost as i dont go near the track and im not usually that hard on the brakes

think im gonna get Brembo/Pagid combo and get some new front tyres with the spare money ive got, cant spend too much ive got debts to pay off, but i deserve a treat after the hell ive been through with the insurance
