Big Brakes - 4 Pot Conversion

  Hondata'd EP3 Type R
Now I'm possibly going to get plenty of flamage for this, AS I admit its a bit of a far fetched idea:

Basically, I have a 1999 1.2RN Clio having some major bodywork, and soem pretty big wheels, and I need new brakes.

Now I have drums at the back so I need a rear beam conversion from a higher spec Clio, Not a Problem, I will then put a Big Disc Conversion (283mm)on the rear, with a High Spec Caliper, Not a Problem, all in all about £600.

However, for the front I want a Hi Spec 4 Pot 325mm Big Brake conversion, I can get these for about £700.

However, if i am honest, I only want all these for looks, as I only have 58bhp, So dont really need the stopping power. IS there anyway of running this set up, but not having it performing as they should?, I'm not looking to improve my braking,as my EBC big Brake Conversion is fine for stopping me, 4 potsare going to be crazy, and over kill, is there anyway of "toning" them down?

thanks

just get a big disk conversion with the standard callipers, or get some higher spec callipers from a 172 etc and get a big disk conversion for the 172 brakes, ive done the same on my clio mk1 1.2, with 16v callipers and a KTR big disk conversion (285mm disks tho) they fill 17's.

Unfortunatly not. They wil stop you like mad its overkill realy the only thing is you can modulate them but you don't need that much stopping power. You'll never overheat the brakes or use them fully so you might find them rusting.
All you'll find is you never fully use there stopping power and if you do when your braking hard you'll never heat them up which is thr whole point of aftermarket 4 pots made of different materials.
You will just find that you get used to them you'll never slam on so you don't need to module them you just find yourself never fully using the full pressure on the pedal.

There always the problem about brakes behind big wheels.
I'd personally get the disk froma 16V etc then some 16v calipers at the fornt and run the k-tec big disk conversion it would be much cheaper.

we do a 4 pot conversion using 172 280mm discs

HILLY!! Why? your car is as slow as hell with all that plastic stuck to it! ;)

Honestly, why waste the money....just go for some decent pads and braided hoses.

Or, you could go four-pot and just put some grease/oil on the discs;)

would these fit behind 15'' willy wheels? have got quite a bit of clearance over the original caliper, but need something for 15's
Yep they should do you can get 15's over stock 172 setup. Aftermarket calipers are allow for as big a disks as possible so are thin in this area.
I've got 4 pots on the Williams and there loads of space.

I bought them from MAR at Richspeed and he fitted them but noone can get hold of him any more (the setup used either 259mm stock disks or 172 280mm ones. You don't need the bigger disk as it seems it worsens handling wise as it increases unsprung weight and gives no more stopping power)

However northy (on here still I think) from http://www.williamsclio.co.uk is making up a kit of the bits all you need for about £420 or so with new disk pads etc.

Since the Mk2 use the same hubs they will be a direct fitment.
