Big End Bearings

How much are they?? Are these easy to change?? And where are they?? I aint much of a mechanic so not to sure whether to have a go at doing these,

Tony.

You can leave engine in situ, although you might have to undo one of the mounts, as unfortunetly removing sump on valvers is more involved than on most cars, although cant recall specifics as never had it off on mine. With sump of you can do them, and BBperftun have them on sale on their website.

Its quite involved but not too bad, but bottem ends on valver engine is fairly bomb proof, you sure its needed?

if you aint much of a mechanic i would leave well alone. how much milage has your engine done, if its high its probabalily worth just putting in a lower mileage engine in or a recon engine if you can afford it.

My cars done 90k mate,

Im not to sure if i need em but on a cold start up i get a knocking noise sounds a bit like a diesel!! but once warmed up after a couple of mins its fine.

Ive heard this could be big end bearings??? And on idle when warmed up the oil pressure is always on 0, once driving goes up to about 3,

well that dont sound like big ends to me !! rev it ( keep it there) to about 3 or 4k & see if theres a rattle then ! most cars will sound rough when started from cold....until the oil kicks around & parts expand !! oil pressure could be a few things in short id say at the moment your gettin worried over nuffin much!

if it aint broke......dont fix it ! lol

Sounds more like your cam followers are well worn if it goes away once warm....good excuse to change them and stick a fast road cam in at the same time...

engine noises can be diagnosed by there beat, big end knocking at idle sound like a thump every half second or so, whereastop end noises are of higher tone and at a higher tempo. However big end knocks rarely dissappear when engine warms, so id rule that out. It could be a little piston slap which would indicate maybe slightly worn bores, but I doubt it. I suspect all you really have, is that older valver favourite, sticky tappets on cold start up, dont fret not serious, more annoying. Reason I dont think your engine bores are worn, is I have just had head of mine, which is also on 90k, and I was absolutely amazed to see the original honing marks in the bore, absolutely no wear whatsoever, good bottom ends, oil spray bar under pistons really done its job. Try an oil change and flush, see if that shuts it up, but really doubt thats its anything worse than this mate, thats good news
