Bit of a overhaul (Valver)

  1996 Valver
Had some probs with my valver recently, really bad shakes on the steering wheel when braking. Checked the obvious, had the wheels balanced ect but the problem was still there:mad:

Just thought sod it, do everything;

New driveshafts a week ago, Then;

Braided lines all round Replaced crappy powerflex bushes with OE items,

New wishbones including bottom ball joints, outer ARB links. New callipers.

Brembo MAX disks to replace some OMP drilled 'n' grooved disks.........complete waste of time, sure these were the cause of the shakes due to being warped after only 3000 miles!!

Also some new greenstuff pads, heard bad things about the old formula, but believe these new ones are OK...........will report back once they are worn in!

New bulkhead heat shield to stop the fluid heating up as much.

Overall I'm very happy with the outcome (no shakes anymore) and nice feel to the brakes, but as I say want to do a few more miles to ware the disk's n pads in before really testing them!:evil:

Got some new track rod ends as well, just not looking forward to removing the old rusted ones!:mad:

Few pics;

Looks good mate, track rods are a b**ch to do (if they are seized) good luck with them my friend...

Out of interest, how much did you pay for the new calipers and from where?

Hope you get lucky with the track rod ends, when I had to do one it came off in about 30 seconds - but you could end up there for hours. From what I can see in the pic though it doesn't look too badly rusted.

  Looking for a ph-quick...
Lokks goos fella! I think the calipers are just nicely painted standard ones! Ive done mine white but replaced didscs and pads shortly after anf ruined them lol"

How difficult did you find the anti roll bar outer bushes to change? Took me ages to do mine!

Thanks guys.

The track rod ends are quite bad, had a quick go after spraying every day with WD40 but no joy, will either allow a few hours to get them off or my dad's mate owns a garage so may get him to do it cheap......sometimes its just nice to pay someone to do the work and not have to worried about it.

The ARB bushes were easy apart from the nuts rounding off and needed to be grinde'd off, plus the bots are like 1cm to small, would be so much easier if the were a bit longer, just to get the thread started!

All the parts were from GSF......I cant sing their praises enough, it was the first time I used them, and will defiantly use them again, just told them I was a member here and got 10% discount!

Calipers look good I think, better than the red I did before!

R65608BRAKE CALIPER-FRONT LH CLIO 1.8 16V >96 36.00
R65610BRAKE CALIPER-FRONT RH CLIO 1.8 16V >96 36.00

Those were the ones I got, so basicly £30 ea after discount, just remember to add £15 ea surcharge and that they don't include the carriers, just the main piston body.............does feel so much better though, well worth the money!

Just get a gas gun on the track rods mate (10 notes from homebase or BQ if you want a cheap one) make them hot as f**k and they will come off easy...

Thanks mate, yeah I got a gas gun, so may try that, my dads mate with the garage uses the oxy-setaline(sp) gun heats it up in mins!
If it costs me £50 I will do that............tracking needs doing anyway!

The calipers are made by Lucas and i'm sure GSF said they are the girling type......I thought Girling were a make, not a model???
Anyway give them a call, they are very helpfull!
