Some of you might have heard about the flooding in Southend last weekend... anyway I was on holiday at the time but just got back and opened the car to a horrendous stink :( yup the water got in somehow!

It's underneath the drivers seat. What's the best way to not only get rid of the water but the horrid smell as well!? Must say my bubblegum air freshener isn't really helping lol.

First things first, you'll need to dry it out. The only way to do that properly is to remove all the carpets and sound foam and dry it in the house. Probably be a good idea to give it a wet vac first with a strong cleaner diluted into the water to suck out the manky bog water that's no doubt full of sewage and growing inside your shagpile!

Clean the cars metal floor with something strong like Mr Muscle kitchen cleaner, make sure you clean it well. It will kill all the bacteria.

When everything is bone dry, Refit the interior and then chuck a fog it bomb in there for 24 hours.

That is the only way you will get rid of the damp smell for good. Anything else will just mask it and not get rid of it.

IMO, Seats etc out, get the carpet out, and dry, that will help a lot.

More importantly though, is drying the underlay/sound deadening under the carpet, and all the electrical components.

Edit: Beaten to it. I didn't say about removing the underlay etc as I know thats a pig to do

Sorry I best make one thing clear...

It's not come in the bottom due to the flood, it's just it rained so hard, and for so long, that I found out I've obviously got a leak somewhere (maybe a seal around the door or something?) either way I guess the same still applies. The most annoying thing is I won't have time to get this sorted before Trax as I'm off on holiday again tomorrow! Annoying, thanks for the tips guys.

You won't solve the smell properly without drying it all, which means removing it, Perfect time to find the leak too.

As always, (as I'm not that far away) my help is on offer :)

hire a ozone generator that should kill all the smells once it is fully dryed out (maybe a dehumidifier?)
