Blow out at 80mph while cornering....

  ExigeV6|Q5|DS3|Fiat

Had a scary moment last night, driving to Brighton in a bit of a rush, i was cornering a left hand bend hard at around 75/80mph, had to run wide as there was an obstruction in the road, hit a large cats eye and tyre blew and lost control......................fighting to regain control and not running in to the armco barrier i put the power down and managed to pull away from the armco, although the rear end flew out as well..

Pulled over and luckly no damage to the car. Changed the wheel for the steel spare.

This is one thing that ive been afraid of while driving fast and it happened. I rekon quick thinking and confident driving ability saved me from the clio being destroyed, also other people from being in danger of a flying clio skidding across the 3 lane dual carraigeway.

Lucky escape i think.......

glad all is ok mate!!!!!!! I had a truck front tyre blow on an Artic i was driving once and it dropped the front nearside by about 12 inches!

I fought with the wheel and it dragged me down the side reservation along the gravel untill I stood up and pulled it back on the road. Scared me to death as I thought I was in deep trouble!

Its horibble isnt it! I was doing 60 at the time fully loaded.

Glad the car and yourself is still in one pieace mate!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D

Good to hear you and the car are in one piece, lucky escape though, I hate it when those sort of things happen, your whole body just tenses and your heart just thunders, take it easy round the bends! Actually scrub that last remark!

bloody hell!! makes u wonder if a less powerful car would have been able to put the power down to pull away from the barrier?

I know what it is like, I had a rear tyer go on me once, just as i got on to the M27 at about 70mph. The worst thing was it was in a polo and the spare was under all my stuff that I was taking to uni. Oh yes it was raining too, so I had to empty out all my things onto the hard sholder in the rain, just to put the spair on.

Dam you are lucky!

sorry for your troubles.

Im amazed that part of our driving test doesnt include advice on how to handle blowouts - after all, there are things like blowouts that will happen to all of us while driving and being taught how to cope with them could be the difference between life and death. Its practically criminal that this is not taught.
