Blown head gasket twice in 500miles

  A SHED!

. Well having just paid to have my head rebuilt after blowing the head gasket. A deep knocking noise was occuring and yes wait for it........ We have low fat mayonaise coloured slime in the oil. Now the car hasnt been ragged since having it back, and when I did get it back the plank who fixed it overfilled the expansion tank on the coolant so it burst out tank. Is this what probably caused it?? Now my engine runs way too hot as normal, so is it worth having these items put on??? Low temp thermostat, low temp fan switch, exhaust heat sheild? anything else? like a performance gasket?? cheers.

:(Sounds like it wasnt done properly the first time. The same happened to me. Did they check the head for cracks or just skim it and stick it back on?

Coolant boiling out of the tank is more likely a symptom of the problem. In other words it probably wasnt fixed when you got it back.

does sound like they didnt repair it properly and surely they have to either refund or re-do the work FOC or its trading standards time surely

see if you can spot any water leaks might have been a core plug rather than the head gasket

If the engine overheated at any point it could have warped the head, which is not easy to put right. As Rob said, it could also be cracked, which can be repaired, a crack would cause your gasket to go pretty regularly.

Definately sounds like theyve just gone ahead and rebiult without finding a cause or looking for any damage, they dont sound like theyve done a very professional job of it IMO.

thats the result of water getting in there mate, thats usually a sign of a blown head gasket. As for uprated temp switch etc some people agree/like them and others dont, personal choice. All depends on the type of driving u do and if you spend most of your time sat in traffic cues. everyone knows how hot the valver engine runs then so any device to help it cool down quicker would be a good thing in those circumstances.

Get back to the garage, that is not acceptable, dont repay for changing gasket again, offer to pay for any secondary problems, I.e what was causing gasket to go, but not for changing gasket again, even better demand your doh back and go to a garage who can be arsed doing it properly. It is probably the head get it checked for cracks and that it aint warped, even if it is, if it aint too bad you can get it skimmed. Also check top of block carfully and also check for trueness. Dont skim too much as you are raising compression ratio and go to far you might end up with detonation problems. Valvers need proper coolant mix all thier life to avoid corrosion problems in waterways once they get older. Think most valvers eat a gasket at least once in thier life, although mine aint yet at 86k (touch wood). Dont take any crap of that garage though!
