Blown turbo?



Oil in the exhaust manifold, puttin out plenty of blue smoke wen on boost.

Think ill hadda b lookin for a 2nd hand or recon turbo.

Only thing that confuses me is i cleaned one of the sensors that was covered in oil and the turbo was boostin again for a couple of miles :s

Any blown turbo's in a dci 65 before?

sounds like the seals have gone

you can have it reconned.

you can buy rebuild kits for most turbos quite cheaply.. but its a bit of an art getting them backtogetehr and working properly i think. due to them spinning at stupid rpm.. think they go as fast as a jet engine or something (IIRC)
 
yeh i know wot u mean, they need to b balanced perfectly or at the big speeds a small weight becomes huge.

Aparently its lookin like 300 quid to get it fixed!!

Cheaper to buy a 2nd hand or recon'd one!

Matt Black is the man you want he cna sell you a turbo cheap.

I know of a few blown turbos it must ba manurfacturing defects as I've yet to blow mine and its had a hard life.

I made payment for my DCI the other day, will be getting it mid week. It has about 1 year 5 months MOT left, anyone recommend me getting an extended one even futher from a 3rd party company ? Or can that be sorted out at a later date ?

Best get the exteneded Renault one. I've got it, it cover more than the normal 3rd Renault normal warently £600 or so I paid but I needed it extemding till 5yrs and 90k you can extend to all sorts of different levels.
 
woulda liked to put the turbo and cooler off the 85...same turbo just turned up to 1.2bar...but would need the injectors too and i cant afford that with insurance in a few wks.

Im 22 on a dci 65...nearly £1000!!! how pants insurance in N.Ireland is!!

You don't need the 85 injectros but they will help with a remap make more power.
Stock 65 injectors, intercooler and remap and your about 105hp 85 injectors and 110hp depends on how good the engine is and mapping
 
wouldnt get a remap, too expensive for me atm.

think the cooler and turbo turned up to the 1.2bar the 80's run would prob only gain me 5 bhp or so and the lag that comes wit the cooler.

Not really any ways to gain power wit the dci's witout goin balls out that i know of

I'll show you the dyno graphs in a few weeks when I'm done. If I haven't got 30hp and 40nm more then i'll be rather suprised.

You can get decient gains much more than any N/A engine can be for the money.
The extra air from a bigger boosting turbo (you can increase boost by fiddlin although its not a good idea) or from cooler air (ie using an intercooler won't get any more power you cna run 20 bar boost and you won't get any extra power. You need more fuel mapping. Stick dci65 boost even without an intercooler could make 100hp easy and 110~115 with custom mapping and a lot of smoke but you'd need new injectors stock ones run out with normal boost at about 88hp. Run an intercooler with stock dci65 and you can get 100hp or so.
The intercooler lag is nothing noticable.
There loads of ways to more power best thing is to decide your budget as the injecotrs are the route to power but expensive and 65 injectors can do 120hp or so if you push them to near breaking and keep sa smooky engine and run a bigger turbo and boost. Bigger injecotors are expensive though (£1k or so at best)
 
i consider throwin 100's at the engine goin balls out..and ive had no luck wit the dci.

some1 tried to steal it 6wks after i bought it-3k's worth of damage, she's had new clutch, gearbag and now turbo aswell as a long list of other stuff.

if any1 can tell of somethin simple to get a wee bit extra id b v interested, would like more torque most.

If your thorwing hundreds then just get a tunning box from Mr hoot there the best value.
If you were throwing a few grand at the engine then you can talk about real power.
