BluePoint Machine Polisher.

Just bought myself the Blue-Point "Electrical sander/polisher" off of my Snap-On man for cheapity cheap. Just wondering what sort of polishing gear you guys would recommend? Basically want to get the paint on my Golf looking better.

It came with a 180mm polishing backing plate, which as far as I can work out means I'll be stuck with some massive meg's pads. So I'm probably looking for advice on what backing plates to get as well as cutting and polish pads/compounds.

Thannnksssss.

It isn't a DA, had a play with it at work. Has loads of speeds and an LED display etc.

Was on the van for £119.99 down from £139.99. I got it for £100 as it was the last one and he was about to send it back! (Model No. STASP1)

It's an M14 spindle thread, has a little LED screen to show you the RPM. Goes from 700 to 3000 rpm.

Any of you recommend specifically any good compounds and polishes for a noob?

  Golf GT & A4 Avant
3m or menzerna

polishes and compounds are typically the same thing. know I'm even more certain you need to read the guides before you even pick up the polisher

Just had a read. Very very good write up! I'm only part way through but already realised I probably don't need very harsh pads or anything like I thought I would. I'm only used to polishing carbon stuff at work with a hand polisher and 3M Fast cut.

I've applied a glaze to a car actually, but never done any correction. PoorBoys stuff I've always liked as it's easy to apply, thoughts?

Any c**t can machine polish a car its not hard. Just buy a few pads and polished and away you go. Read into it. Id go with Lake Country pads (Constant pressure) and whatever polish you want. Menzerna, Gtehniq P1 etc.

I was thinking the Polish (Click) and Finishing (click) pads from 3M, then maybe Poorboys SSR1 Followed by their Pro Polish then black hole glaze? (Its a dark blue car).

So going by advice I've had, and a bit of other research and shopping around reading reviews etc. here's where I am.

Pads (In order of use):
Chem Guys Hex Yellow.
3M Yellow.
3M Black

Compounds/Polish (In order of Use):
Megs 105.
Scholl S17+
Megs 205.

Glaze:
Poorboys Black hole. (Use another black 3m for this?)

Then I have my Dodo Juice Hybrid wax to seal it all.

Thoughts?

use the least abrasive polish and pad combo to start. i doubt youll get much use from the hex yellow, orange green and white i use most often

So start with the Scholl and see if it comes up well, if its still s**t then hit it with the #105? Just going by recommendations by people on Edition. Mainly people with the same car :)

Scholl's awesome, but I found I had to use it in a different technique to Megs. I found it a lot easier to use tbh and corrected much faster.

That was with one of their spider sandwich pads though.

Okay so I really dont want to use anything harsh since I dont have access to a paint depth gauge so my new shopping list is...

Green Hexlogic pad. Scholl s17+ and anyone recommend a good finishing polish?

  Fiesta ST-2 Finsport
Less chance of me turning my car into a DeLorean then?

haha i like that! TBH most VW like Daniel said have a very hard top coat...but not all! Take each car as they come, chances are you will find on most cars they have had some sort of respray in places which could be alot softer than the oem paint.
Ref. the burning through to bare metal, most burn throughs occur not so much because the paint is soft etc but near edges of panels, on painted plastics i.e bumpers and edges and corners. so be mindfull of those!

The Scholl range is brilliant, very quick correction and finishes down mwaah!
Enjoy
