Both full belt kits replaced and now a whistle noise.......

  Clio 182 Trophy. No. 189
............only whilst idling and at low revs, does not seem to be heard past about 2k.

Only had the 2 kits fitted yesterday, is this normal?

Thanks

Also have a rubber smell from this area, is this normal for freshly fitted belts? I am told it is!

Right, taken the car for a drive this morning and the sound was not as predominent at first start, it seems more apparent when the car is at normal running temp. The sound can be heard from lower down rather than the engine bay. Not sure if the best description of the noise is a 'chirp' more than a whistle but certainly no squeeling noises. Aux belt seems to look like it is running fine and does not get hot after a good run. Smell seems to be apparent near drivers side wheel arch when up close.

Will have to take this back but heading to a CS meet today for a 2nd opinion!

Still got the problems so going back to grg tomorrow.

Curious to know what this could be? Perhaps a belt touching a cover?

Right, car checked over today and mechanic is happy with it - to cut a long story short I am not! Definately sounds like a whirling noise (not very loud but noticeable) and the smell is still apparent (again nothing too obvious but I still notice it!). Can anyone shed any light on this and what the most likely cause could be? The aux belt tensioner was not fitted in the end as it was 'too awkward to take out' but he did say that the one on the car looked ok. Have a garage in Exmouth (Carlton Garage) who seemed very helpful and seemed to think that it would be something Aux belt related.

Can anyone give me any ideas what is happening here? I am so frustrated I did not take it to a specialist - you learn from your mistakes :(

I already have to an extent but he says eveything is ok - it is also a friend so don't really want to cause a fuss! I didn't really pay too much either so can't complain! Just trying to work out what the problem is as obviously don't want any problems down the line!

It's not really a predominent smell but definately noticable from the drivers side wheel arch - may just be a new belt smell but I'm not so sure!

i have had some that smell but not for long. the noise maybe the tensioner not been replaced have the replaced the idler

Have had the idler replaced but not the tensioner - he defo said the idler as this was part of the kit.

From your response it sounds like it could be ok!?

If he said the aux kit was too hard to replace then this would be the least of my worries if he's been playing with the cambelt area aswel. Timing out etc.

If I were you I would get it to a specialist and doagnose the problem before you end up with a shagged engine

I am certain he took the tensioner out the last time he did the belts but didn't this time as said he couldn't get it out. Aux belt is just as important as the cam belt as if aux belt goes there is 99% chance of it taking cam bet out. Without slating the job it may well turn out to be my
Paranoid mind!

There's nothing to be paranoid about the fact your getting burning smells and a whine after having your belts replaced by a mate.

Seroiously mate get it to a specialist and then inform your mate of the errors made and see if he gives you any money bak

too awkward to replace? its 2 bolts FFS!

I think he meant it was more work to get it out but didn't require replacing anyway. He has checked it again and belts look fine, road driven it and again no issues.

Sorry to shed bad light on this but I had what I would call a quiet 'Chirp', especially audible when down by the drivers wheel arch or when driving next to walls etc, at that was the Aux Belt Tensioners bearing

This really should be replaced with the kit,

Pete

  Nothing at the mo :(
just take it to a specialist ffs.. we see these threads all the time

last time it was someones uncle who said it didnt need doing.. now its someone "mate" who has done a few people

Take to to Ktec who are nearest to you i belive.. they do loads of cambelt changes

Think you might be right, although specialist thinks it may be the lower idler (which was replaced according to mechanic). Assume this is easy to replace.

Took it Carlton garage in Exmouth, Devon and the setup seems very good. They said the noise is not something they have come across before!

Agree but this 'mate' also owns his own garage and has done a lot if these before.
