Box Thickness for Sub

Hey,
Im looking to put a sub in my boot and am going to make my own box.
Im looking to get a 12" sub and am into sq but also want some boot space left and not to add masses of weight.
So i was wondering what thickness MDF would give me good quality bass but be small and not add rediculous weight. Best of both worlds really.
Also what Sub would be recomended on a low budget?
I was looking at the FLI active boxes but since coming on here havnt read a single good review so ditched that idea. lol

i was thinking about a, Infinity Kappa 122.7W - 12" DVC ?

For SQ.... dont think the kappa would be the greatest. I haven't got one so i don't know... just not that well rated.
Give us a budget!

I was thinking of up to about 50 quid on the sub. n then about 70 on an amp.

Ok, what music do you listen to mainly?? Fast beaty stuff? Bassline... or rap or dance or what?
As a 10" may fit your needs better than a 12"

umm everything really, apart from rap. mainly rock like fast beaty yeah. instrumental. prodigy is a good bet of the sort of beat i like.

Songs like prodigy peak higher see. Meaning that theoretically a smaller sub could deal with these better. This also means less weight and less space occupied.

I use a lot of JBL stuff and it's always excellent value for money.
IMO pick infinity over vibe too!
I havn't tried any of these subs. But from past experiences and what i've heard, and eviews i've read. Then definatly i'd go for the JBl's.

cheers im gona go for either the JBL or infinity as i like the look of the infinity more.

got any recomendations for an amp?

and also im going to replace all other speakers in the car as the basted who had the car before has managed to blow a few. im going to get a set of components and a coax set but am unsure whether to have the coax in the back or front and vise versa for the components.
shall be leaving the tweeters on the dash.
