brake conversion - few quick q's

  mk1 ph2 1.4
Finally have my williams brake set up waiting to be installed however noticed the guy found it a good idea not to send the bolts. Ive had a read on various threads but would just like to confirm whether im going to need the williams bolts to do the conversion? No point starting to find I do!

Also the guy who sold me them has cut the hoses (thanks!) I read they aren't needed and old ones are fine, is that true? Is it only a problem if the existing ones brake? And how likely is that?

thanks

old hoses are fine (if they're in good nick, check the condition of the rubber)

which bolts are you on about??

Ok thanks yoza, bolts - the ones that bolt on the disks but thinking about it I haven't got bolts for the carriers either... needed???

cheers

People often cut the hoses are they are too much hassle trying to remove as they are often seized on.

Have you got the right spanners for the job? 9/11mm brake spanner is a worthwhile buy as the unions are often seized and a normal open spanner will round them off pretty quick!

Ok cheers sami ill ask my mate to see if he's got one if not ill invest in one, i cant be bothered with the hassle of a seized on hose!
anyone know about the bolts will the originals fit the new disks and carriers?

okay thanks edde looks like im set.
Couple more quick q's, what brake fluid do people recommend? And how should I go about cleaning the calipers up so they work nicely? Just saying that becasue the movement seems a bit stiff at the moment.

cheers

You could strip them down and rebuilt the wth new seals or better still get GSF etc to do it £40 or so I think they charge each caliper.

Brake fluid depends what you do with the car stock Halfords stuff shouldbe fine for most people.

I dont have that kind of money to be throwing at a £800 car! lol. I wanted to keep the brake upgrade under £80, which it will at the moment once ive got fluid, bleeding system and the spanner. Cant I just take it apart and clean it with methylated spirits or something?

cheers
