brake fitting

Hey guys have just bought a set of green stuff brake pads. They came with shims which it says i have to cut and apply to the rear of the brake pads. The shims dont cover the full length of the pad. Do you just have to cover certain areas? Help much appreciated. cheers

Most people remove them and use copperslip instead. I seem to remember that they may not fit with the shims attached too!
