Brake Help

  Williams Clio

I reccently purchased a 93 clio 1.4RT. I have had it on the road working fine for just over a month now without to many problems. A couple of days ago i was driving along and the car started to pull sideways, i pulled over thinking it was a flat tyre only to find the brake discs red hot. Im guessing the calipers are probably binding. To test it further i drove round the block several times without using the brakes only to find the disks very hot again. Any advice on what to do would be very helpfull thanks.

ive took my wheels off and other than a lot of rust on the caliper the pads and disks both seem in ok condition. Im gonna take them off completely just wondering if its best to get a caliper rebuild kit and clean them up good, or to get some second hand re-furbished calipers?

get some girlings on there, far better than teh bendix calipers.

But check if the calipers slide properly on their guides.

normally its the calipers with the slide type arrangement pad setup that seize up.the bolt on type are a lot better.check the condition of the rubbers that cover up the caliper slides, water ingress and the resulting corrosion can cause the calipers to seize.you can unseize them but you might need new rubbers.

Thanks for your help will get the calipers removed on thursday and take a look see what i can do, im also looking into getting new uprated disks and pads what do people recommend?

swapping to the girling setup on valvers. Its a striaght swap using the 16Vs longer caliper bolts, discs and pads.

a lot of the normal clios had the bolt on type of pads as well.in fact the bolt on were a lot more commen.if you look around breakers yards and look at all clio models of around your year you will find the calipers you need.
